A sealing assembly comprising a plurality of components including an upper sealing element and a lower sealing element, the sealing assembly configured to encircle a tubular string positioned within a casing of a wellbore. The sealing assembly is configured to be actuatable to extend sealing elements between the tubular string and an inner surface of the casing to form a fluid seal between the tubular element and the inner surface of the casing.

Sealing assembly for wellbore operations

A packer for wells can include a body having a tubular shape, a sealing element having an upward end and a downward end and disposed around the body. The packer also includes a first prop upward of the sealing element, and a second prop downward of the sealing element. The first prop is configured to wedge under the upward end of the sealing element and the second prop is configured to wedge under the downward end of the sealing element to push the sealing element outward at both the upward end and the downward end.

Well packers

A cut-to-release packer can include a bottom sub, a wedge assembly, a mandrel, and a load diverting snap ring. The mandrel extends within the wedge assembly. The mandrel can include a support portion with a first cross-sectional thickness and a cut zone portion with a second cross-sectional thickness less than the first cross-sectional thickness, wherein the cut zone portion is disposed between the bottom sub and the support portion. Both the mandrel and the wedge assembly can be coupled to the bottom sub. The load diverting snap ring can be engaged with the mandrel along the support portion, wherein the load diverting snap ring facilitates transfer of tensile load between the wedge assembly and the support portion of the mandrel.

Method and apparatus for diverting load within a cut-to-release packer

A packer assembly can include a setting mechanism with a shock dissipation device that deforms and thereby dissipates shock produced by the setting mechanism. A method of constructing a packer assembly can include assembling a setting mechanism by releasably securing a piston of the setting mechanism, the piston displacing in response to a predetermined pressure differential being applied across the piston, and positioning a shock dissipation device with the piston, the shock dissipation device dissipating shock produced by displacement of the piston when the predetermined pressure differential is applied. Another packer assembly can include a setting mechanism which outwardly extends a seal element and/or a gripping device, the setting mechanism including a shock dissipation device which deforms and thereby dissipates shock produced by the setting mechanism, and the shock dissipation device including a generally tubular member having multiple openings formed through a wall of the tubular member.

A downhole tool setting system includes a tubular member that defines a bore therethrough; a downhole tool positioned to ride the tubular member between a partial set position and a final set position; and a locking system coupled to the downhole tool and configured to adjust the downhole tool from the partial set position based on at least a portion of the locking system moveable relative to the tubular member to the final set position based on at least a portion of the locking system affixed to the tubular member.

Setting a downhole tool in a wellbore

A method of constructing a packer assembly can include installing a body lock ring on a mandrel, and then outwardly surrounding the body lock ring with a structure displaceable relative to the mandrel by a setting mechanism. A packer assembly can include a setting mechanism which displaces a structure relative to a mandrel, and a mandrel lock device which permits one way displacement of the structure relative to the mandrel, the mandrel lock device including a body lock ring and a bias sleeve which urges the body lock ring into gripping engagement with the mandrel, the bias sleeve and the structure being separate elements of the packer assembly. The bias sleeve can be secured against rotation relative to the mandrel while the structure is rotatable relative to the mandrel.
