A device, such as a computing device or a surgical device, may receive surgical operation data associated with a surgical operation. Based on the surgical operation data, a device may identify a surgical device to be used for a surgical operation and/or one or more surgical steps associated with a surgical operation. Based on the identified surgical device, the one or more surgical steps, and/or the surgical operation data, a device may determine an allowable operation range controlling a surgical device for a surgical procedure. A device may receive an adjustment input configuration to control a surgical device for a surgical step. A device may determine whether the adjustment input configuration is outside of the determined allowable operation range. Based on a determination that the adjustment input configuration is outside of the determined allowable operation range, a device may block the adjustment input configuration to control a surgical device.

Adaptable operation range for a surgical device

A surgical system is configured to deploy staples from a staple cartridge reload into tissue. The surgical system includes a first sensor configured to measure a first parameter indicative of a force to form the staples, and a second sensor configured to measure a second parameter indicative of a position of a sled along a staple-forming distance. The system further includes a control circuit communicatively connected to a motor, the first sensor, and the second sensor, wherein the control circuit is configured to: receive a first signal from the first sensor indicative of the first parameter; receive a second signal from the second sensor indicative of the second parameter; and detect staple malformation of the staples based on the first signal and the second signals.

Surgical stapling systems with adaptive staple firing algorithms

A surgical system is for use in a surgical procedure. The surgical system includes a surgical instrument configured to treat tissue in the surgical procedure; an imaging device; a display configured to show a livestream of a surgical field of the surgical procedure, wherein the livestream is captured by the imaging device; and a control module. The control module is configured to detect a surgical risk; assign a display priority to the surgical risk; and determine a display arrangement of the surgical risk based on the display priority, wherein the display arrangement comprises overlaying an alert feature on the livestream.

Disclosed is a surgical system, comprising an end effector configured to grasp tissue and provide therapeutic treatment to tissue. The surgical system further comprises a motor, a motor drive circuit, and a motor control circuit. The motor control circuit is configured to provide a motor drive signal to the motor drive circuit and adaptively control elements of the motor drive circuit to control deceleration of the motor in the absence of the motor drive signal. When the motor drive signal is present, the motor drive circuit can be configured to pass the motor drive signal through to the motor.

The control system is configured to drive the firing member from the unfired position toward the fired position with the firing system, detect a force to fire the firing member toward the fired position, predict a future force to fire the firing member, based on the detected force to fire, and dynamically adjust a firing algorithm of the firing system, based on the prediction.

Utilizing local firing parameters to initiate motor control adjustments in surgical systems

A surgical system is disclosed including an imaging device, a display, and a control system operably coupled to the imaging device and the display. The display is configured to show a livestream of a surgical field of a surgical procedure. The livestream is captured by the imaging device. The control system is configured to overlay, on the livestream, a first amount of information associated with the surgical procedure, detect an event configured to cause the first amount of information being overlaid to increase to a second amount of information being overlaid, compare the second amount of information to a distraction threshold, adjust the second amount of information to a third amount of information based on the comparison, and overlay, on the livestream, the third amount of information based on the second amount of information being adjusted. The third amount of information is less than the distraction threshold.

Systems and methods for controlling surgical data overlay

A surgical system for use in a surgical procedure to perform sequential firings of staple cartridges is disclosed. A control circuit is to monitor a parameter indicative of a tissue response associated with a first firing, assess the tissue response based on the parameter, and adjust an operational parameter associated with a second firing based on the tissue response during the first firing.

The firing assembly includes a proximal driving body and an array of discrete staple driving segments positioned distal to the proximal driving body. The proximal driving body is capable of simultaneously actuating the array of staple driving segments to drive the plurality of staples against the staple forming pockets of the anvil.

A surgical instrument is disclosed including a motor-powered firing system comprising a firing motor, a motor-powered closure system comprising a closure motor, and a control system. The firing motor is configured to drive a firing member between an unfired position and a fired position. The closure motor is configured to transition an end effector between an open state and a clamped state. The control system is configured to set a first parameter of the motor-powered closure system, based on a received first input, drive the end effector toward the clamped state with the motor-powered closure system using the first parameter, monitor a second parameter associated with the end effector transitioning toward the clamped state, set a third parameter of the motor-powered firing system, based on a received second input and the monitored second parameter, and drive the firing member toward the fired position using the third parameter.

Disclosed is a method of adapting energy modality due to a short circuit or tissue type grasped in the jaws of an end effector of a surgical instrument and a system with a control circuit configured to execute the method. The method includes determining a first and second electrode of an array of segmented electrodes are shorted to each other, blending monopolar and bipolar RF energy to the array of segmented electrodes, and determining that the first and second electrodes remain shorted after the blending step. Additionally, or alternatively, the method may include determining that the first and second electrodes are no longer shorted after the blending step, sensing an electrical parameter of tissue grasped within jaws of the end effector, and determining an energy sealing and cutting procedure based on the sensed electrical parameter of the tissue.

A surgical instrument includes a handle assembly, an elongate shaft, an end effector, and control system having a processor and a memory. The handle assembly is movable between a plurality of positions and includes an interface. Additionally, or alternatively, the control system can toggle the interface between a primary interface configuration with operational controls and a secondary interface configuration with navigation controls.
