A sealing apparatus and related method for sealing an annular space between concentrically disposed members. In an exemplary embodiment, the method includes providing a sealing ring within the annular space, the sealing ring defining oppositely inclined interior and exterior surfaces each having a generally frusto-conical shape and defining opposing first and second edges, a nose adjoining the respective first edges of the interior and exterior surfaces, and a first convex surface adjoining the respective second edges of the interior and exterior surfaces opposite the nose; and forming a seal against a fluid pressure in the annular space, comprising depressing the first convex surface of the sealing ring so that the interior and exterior surfaces thereof expand radially to exert contact stress on each of the concentrically disposed members.

Sealing apparatus for high pressure high temperature (HPHT) applications

A junction system to line a lateral wellbore can include a junction assembly and a running tool. The junction assembly can include an anchor, a transition joint, a load transfer device, and a lateral liner. The running tool assembly can be configured to extend within a central bore of the junction assembly. The running tool assembly can include a setting tool to set the anchor and a locking device to permit transfer of axial or rotational force between the lateral liner and a work string.

Method and apparatus for introducing a junction assembly including a transition joint and a load transfer device

A high-axial load bearing assembly is provided for use with a radially expandable tool such as an expandable liner hanger. Exemplary embodiments of axial load bearing assemblies operate independently of external casing pressure and internal tubing pressure. The assemblies do not rely on movable slips or the physical characteristics of the sealing members to grip the casing and bear the axial load. The gripping and sealing functions are largely separated between gripping and sealing sub-assemblies. Hardened metal features which undergo radial expansion during deployment are provided with expansion stress-relief features.
