A nose or tail assembly for a flight vehicle is provided in which the deployment of the canards or fins is driven by energy imparted by the shroud when it is released. A tip section is rotatably coupled to a base, and both are stowed in a volume between the shroud and nose/tail assembly. As the shroud is released, a drive feature engages the tip section to rotate and join the base to form a complete canard or fin. This eliminates the need for storing the canards or fins in or wrapped around the body and eliminates the need for a complex deployment mechanism occupying an internal volume of the body. Although viable for all sizes of flight vehicles, the shroud-driven deployment system scales to very small diameter vehicles in which internal volume is not available to store either flight surfaces or deployment mechanisms.

A rapidly modulated hydraulic supply is disclosed. The rapidly modulated hydraulic supply can include a chamber for receiving fluid. The rapidly modulated hydraulic supply can also include a displacement member operable to displace the fluid from the chamber. In addition, the rapidly modulated hydraulic supply can include a flow modulation system operable to vary the flow rate of the fluid output from the chamber. A first flow rate corresponds to a first output pressure, and is different from a second flow rate corresponding to a second output pressure for a like movement of the displacement member.

A rotary actuation mechanism comprising an actuator having a body, and a slider movable on a linear path relative to the body. A first linkage can be pivotally coupled to the body at a first pivot having a first axis. A second linkage can be pivotally coupled to the slider at a second pivot having a second axis, and pivotally coupled to the first linkage at a third pivot. A length of the first linkage between the first pivot and the third pivot can be equal to a length of the second linkage between the second pivot and the third pivot. The slider can be movable to position the second axis in a collinear relationship with the first axis. The rotary actuation mechanism can include an anti-singularity device to constrain movement of the body when the first axis and the second axis are in the collinear relationship.

A hand control device for controlling a peripheral system is disclosed. The hand control device can include a handle configured to be grasped by a user. The handle can comprise a body portion to be supported against a palm of the user. The hand control device can also include a finger control supported about the handle and comprising a rotatable joint to facilitate control based on flexion/extension of an index finger of the user. In addition, the hand control device can include a thumb control supported about the handle and comprising first and second rotatable joints to facilitate control based on flexion/extension and abduction/adduction of a thumb of the user.

A miniature quantum fluid transfer system configured to regulate the flow rate of a fluid by allowing passage of small, discrete increments of fluid through the valve including a valve body having at least one inlet to receive fluid and at least one outlet to release fluid, and a valve rod movably disposed in a first chamber in the valve body. The valve rod has a plurality of fluid passages spaced longitudinally along the valve rod, and the valve rod is movable to align each fluid passage with an inlet or outlet port in the first chamber to allow fluid to flow through selected inlet or outlet ports corresponding to selected fluid passages. The quantum fluid transfer system has a plug movably disposed in a second chamber to push a corresponding volume of fluid out of the second chamber at the end opposite the end the fluid entered.

A miniature unidirectional valve configured to restrict the free flow of fluid through the valve includes a valve body having an inlet and an outlet. A flexible membrane is movably disposed over the inlet and outlet, and movable between an open position and a closed position. The flexible membrane is movable by a pressure from the inlet to move the membrane to the open position. A control chamber is disposed in the valve body adjacent the fluid flow path, and configured to apply a pressure against the membrane to move the membrane to the closed position to restrict fluid flow through the valve. A preload structure is associated with the flexible membrane, and biases the flexible membrane toward the closed position.

A pilot valve configured to provide a control pressure within a dynamic fluid system, the pilot valve comprising: (a) a valve body having a supply port, a return port, and a control pressure port, the pressure control port in fluid communication with a subsequent valving component; (b) an axial bore formed in the valve body and in fluid communication with each of the supply, return, and control pressure ports; (c) a valve spool slidably supported within the axial bore of the valve body, the valve spool configured to control fluid flow through the supply, return, and control pressure ports, and to vary the rate of change of area of at least one of the supply and return pressure ports upon being displaced, thereby providing a variable resistance to fluid flowing therethrough and reducing the quiescent power of the pilot valve; and (d) means for displacing, in a selective manner, the valve spool within the axial bore about the supply, return, and control pressure ports to apportion fluid therethrough to provide a desired control pressure to the subsequent valving component. The pilot valve further comprises a feedback port formed in the valve body and in fluid communication with the control pressure port; and a feedback passage in fluid communication with the feedback port and a portion of the valve spool, the feedback passage configured to receive pressurized fluid therein to act against the valve spool to balance the forces acting on the valve spool from the motor.

First-stage pilot valve

A thinly configured and brushless miniature DC micro motor that includes at least two substantially-flat motor cells that are aligned axially. Each motor cell comprises a stator coil having an elongate opening and passage for a rotor shaft, and a cross-polarized rotor magnet carried on the rotor shaft and received within the elongate opening. The micro motor also includes a frame substrate that fixably supports the stator coils of the motor cells while providing a bearing means for rotatably supporting the rotor shaft, so that selectively energizing one of the motor cells creates an electric current in the stator coil interacting with a magnetic field of the received rotor magnet to generate a torque between the rotor shaft and the frame substrate.

Micro motor

A miniature pump device, with a fluid reservoir that can contain an intravenous drug, hydraulic fluid, or the like. The miniature pump has a motor disposed adjacent the fluid reservoir, and a piston disposed within the fluid reservoir. A power transfer linkage transfers power from the motor to the piston in the fluid reservoir, and a stationary flexible seal is coupled between the fluid reservoir and the power transfer linkage to seal a portion of the power transfer linkage within the fluid reservoir.

A miniature quantum fluid transfer system configured to regulate the flow rate of a fluid by allowing passage of very small, discrete increments of fluid through the valve including a valve body having at least one inlet to receive fluid and at least one outlet to release fluid. The quantum fluid transfer system includes a valve rod movably disposed in a first chamber in the valve body. The valve rod has a plurality of fluid passages spaced longitudinally along the valve rod, and the valve rod is movable to align each fluid passage with an inlet or outlet port in the first chamber to allow fluid to flow through selected inlet or outlet ports corresponding to selected fluid passages. The quantum fluid transfer system has a plug movably disposed in a second chamber in the valve body. The plug is movable between a first end and a second end of the second chamber, and moves toward the first or second end when a volume of fluid enters the second chamber from the first chamber at the other of the first or second end. The plug pushes a corresponding volume of fluid out of the second chamber at the end opposite the end the fluid entered.

The present invention describes, generally, a method and system for controlling the dynamics of an actuatable load functioning or operable within a servo or servo-type system, wherein the dynamics of the load are controlled by way of a unique asymmetric pressure control valve configured to provide intrinsic pressure regulation. The asymmetric pressure control valve, which may be referred to as a dynamic pressure regulator because of its capabilities, utilizes different sized free floating spools that are physically independent of one another and freely supported in interior cavities of respective corresponding different sized valving components that make up the valve body to regulate the pressures acting within the overall system between the control or pilot pressure and the load or load pressure. The dual spools of the pressure control valve, although physically independent of one another, function in cooperation with one another in an attempt to maintain a state of equilibrium in the system, namely to keep pressure acting on or within the actuator (the load pressure), or the feedback pressure corresponding to the load pressure, the same as the control or pilot pressure. Moreover, pressure regulation and control is intrinsic to the asymmetric pressure control valve because of the configuration and function of the dual spools and the feedback system acting on the spools, thus eliminating the need for electronically or mechanically user controlled systems.

Techniques for control of fluid delivery from a fluid reservoir by a medical infusion pump are described. Setting of at least one electronically-controllable pumping parameter is determined by the use of one or more mechanical keys. The mechanical key actuates one or more electronic switches of a mechanical key receptacle coupled to the medical infusion pump. The electronic switches are coupled to the medical infusion pump to control the at least one electronically-controllable pumping parameter. Keys can be differently configured to actuate different switches corresponding to particular settings and can include display indicia showing the particular parameter value set by the key.

The present invention describes, generally, a method and system for controlling the dynamics of an actuatable load functioning or operable within a servo or servo-type system, wherein the dynamics of the load are controlled by way of a unique pressure control valve configured to provide intrinsic pressure regulation. The pressure control valve, which may be referred to as a dynamic pressure regulator because of its capabilities, utilizes dual spools that are physically independent of one another and freely supported in the valve body to regulate the pressures acting within the overall system between the control or pilot pressure and the load or load pressure. The dual spools of the pressure control valve, although physically independent of one another, function in cooperation with one another in an attempt to maintain a state of equilibrium in the system, namely to keep pressure acting on or within the actuator (the load pressure), or the feedback force corresponding to the load pressure, the same as the control or pilot pressure. Moreover, pressure regulation and control is intrinsic to the pressure control valve because of the configuration and function of the dual spools and the mechanical feedback system acting on the spools, thus eliminating the need for electronically or mechanically user controlled systems.

The present invention features a sleeve valve comprising an elongate body having an outer surface and including a lumen for receiving a fluid and an associated fluid pressure therein and for defining a flow path of the fluid; at least one fluid flow port formed through the outer surface that is in fluid connection with the lumen; and a sleeve slidably disposed about the outer surface of the body and configured to displace across the fluid flow port to precisely regulate fluid emission through the fluid flow port. The sleeve and elongate body are operably related in a manner so as to provide some degree of fluid force compensation, such that the forces necessary to displace the sleeve across the fluid flow port are substantially unaffected by the fluid pressures acting within the body and at the fluid flow port. In other words, the fluid pressures do not substantially contribute to the resistance in the sleeve during actuation.
