A disk cartridge, for use in a disk drive, has a shutter for opening and closing over a disk access opening. A compression spring provides a force to bias the shutter to a closed position. The spring is coupled at one end to the shutter and follows an arcuate path substantially concentric with the disk within the cartridge.

A disk cartridge has two shell layers encapsulating a medium. The first layer encases the disk medium. The second layer encases the first layer. Both layers have a head access opening such that rotation of one layer relative to the other layer causes the head access openings to be aligned or misaligned. The shutter lever grabs the lever and rotates it counter-clockwise. The cartridge has a flat nose portion to provide a shutter arm alignment surface during shutter opening in conjunction with the lever and a cut-out portion in the bottom of the cartridge to allow the lever to retract the shutter further into the cartridge.

A caddy for adapting a mini-cartridge for use in a full-sized disk drive. The mini-cartridge is designed for use in a mini disk drive, which has dimensions and other characteristics different from a full-size disk drive. The caddy provides a mechanism for translating the size of the min-cartridge to a size suitable for use in the full-size drive. Additionally, the caddy provides a mechanism for translating rotational power from the full-size disk drive to the mini-cartridge such that a magnetic medium contained in the mini-cartridge rotates properly during use in the full-size disk drive.
