A method includes establishing a first session (e.g., a Wi-Fi call) via a first connection to a first network, where the connection to the first network is provided by a first receiver of the mobile device, and monitoring a characteristic of the first connection to the first network. The method includes determining whether the characteristic satisfies a threshold. When the characteristic does not satisfy the threshold, the method includes activating a second receiver of the mobile device, establishing a second connection to a second network, and initiating a handover procedure to transfer the first session from the first network to the second network. The second connection to the second network is provided by the second receiver of the mobile device. As a result of the handover procedure, the first session may be merged with or transferred to a second session (e.g., a cellular call) provided via the second network.

Techniques for handout of an active session from a first network to a second network

A mobile device may establish and register a connection to a first network at a registration server, and may subsequently establish and register a connection to a second network at the registration server. Registration of the connection to the second network may designate the second network as a primary network for providing services to the mobile device. In response to the registration of the connection to the second network, the mobile device may receive a notification indicating the connection to the second network is designated as a primary connection for providing at least one service to the mobile device. In response to receiving the notification, the mobile device may transmit, to a network entity, a pullback message including a request to refresh the registration of the first network at the registration server, thereby designating the first network as the primary network for providing the services to the mobile device.

Systems and methods facilitating communication with respect to a plurality of communication networks using pullback techniques

Systems and methods herein utilize interworking protocols with centralized functionality to perform CSFB with minimal latency for an inbound and/or outbound communication with a mobile device that is attached to a communication network not operable to service the communication. Embodiments utilize a centralized gateway that communicates in both an LTE network and CS network. In embodiments, the mobile device may be concurrently attached to the LTE network, registered with the centralized gateway, and registered with an MSC of the CS network. Upon the CS network receiving an inbound call for the mobile device or upon the mobile device originating a call, the MSC may set up the call with the mobile device with minimal latency because the mobile device is pre-registered with the MSC.
