A container includes a fire-retarding material, a substantially airtight cavity, and a reinforcement material. The substantially airtight cavity is formed by the fire-retarding material and is sized to hold at least one item. The reinforcement material is connected with the fire-retarding material.

Containers for fire containment

A fire-retaining container is disclosed which includes a first fire-retarding layer and a second fire-retarding layer connected to the first fire-retarding layer. Another fire-retaining container is disclosed which includes a fire-retarding layer and a reinforcement material reinforcing the fire-retarding layer. A method of containing an item is disclosed. In one step, an item is covered with a fire-retaining container. The fire-retaining container comprises: (1) a first fire-retarding layer and a second fire-retarding layer connected to the first fire-retarding layer; or (2) a fire-retarding layer and a reinforcement material reinforcing the fire-retarding layer.

Fire-retaining containers

Provided are fireproof flexible hoses, aircraft having fire suppression systems including such fireproof flexible hoses, and methods of forming such fireproof flexible hoses. A fireproof flexible hose includes an inner structure and an outer structure at least partially enclosing and directly interfacing the inner structure. The inner structure forms an inner surface of the fireproof flexible hose and includes a polyimide at least at the inner surface. The polyimide has good fireproofing and temperature resistant characteristics and, unlike other polymers, does not need to be thermally isolated when the hose is exposed to fire. The outer structure may be made from metal and/or non-metal and may provide mechanical support to the inner structure. The outer structure may have a convoluted shape to ensure flexibility of the overall hose assembly. In some examples, a set of gaps may be present between the outer and inner structures for additional flexibility.

Fireproof flexible hoses with polyimide inner structures

Systems and methods that use an optical impedance sensor that eliminates electricity for measuring fuel quantity in fuel tanks. The optical impedance sensor comprises two optical fibers spaced apart inside a meniscus tube, one to transmit light along its length and the other to receive light along its length. The meniscus tube minimizes the sloshing of fuel level. The fuel level in the tank modulates the optical impedance between the two optical fibers, resulting in changes in the total light received by an optical detector. Depending on fuel tank height, the optical impedance sensor may comprise different embodiments in which the detection apparatus shapes the light to be unidirectional (emitted and collected only on one side of the fiber) or omnidirectional (all directions).

Provided is a captured seal assembly that can be positioned between a first surface and a second surface of a structure or vehicle, such as an aircraft. The captured seal assembly includes a geometric-shaped seal such as a bulb-shaped seal that can be secured to an outer perimeter of the first surface and a receiving land capture that can be secured to an outer perimeter of the second surface. The geometric-shaped seal is designed to engage with the receiving land capture, and join the first surface and second surface when the geometric-shaped seal is engaged with the receiving land capture. In addition, the seal assembly can maintain a differential in pressure between a first region adjacent to the first surface and a second region adjacent to the second surface.

Seal design for vehicle and structure application

A method and apparatus for measuring particle content in a stream, comprising routing the stream, via a plurality of tubes, from a plurality of sampling points where particle content concentrations are to be measured. The concentration of particle content in the stream may be measured. The measurement may be based on determination, via a sensor for example, of an electrostatic charge of the particles as the particles, and/or based on counting of a number of particles in the stream, such as using a counter tracking light emitted from a light source. The measured concentration of particle content may be analyzed to determine if it is indicative of an appropriate concentration of measured particles in the stream. The particles may comprise extinguishing and/or suppression agent particles.

A device for controlling fluid flow for heating or cooling an associated system is provided. The present invention includes a housing having a flow control member that includes a bendable portion. The flow control member responds automatically to a pressure condition within the housing and opens or closes based on the direction and quantity of fluid flow and does not include any mechanical or electromechanical control components. The bendable portion may include, for example, a convoluted section. The flow control member is in an open position during a mode of operation of the associated system and is in a closed position in another mode of operation of the system.

Hingeless flapper valve for flow control

Systems and methods for fluid level detection are disclosed. In one embodiment, a sensor assembly includes at least one optical fiber adapted to at least one of transmit and receive an optical signal, and a moveable float member. The float member is adapted to move in a first direction as the fluid level increases and in a second direction as the fluid level decreases. The float member blocks the optical signal at a first value of the fluid level, and allows the optical signal to pass at a second value of the fluid level. The presence or absence of the optical signal is detected to determine the level of fluid.

A smoke detector unit with a fan that creates an airstream which flows through a smoke detector. Both the fan and the smoke detector are located within a housing that is mounted to the fuselage of an airplane. The smoke detector generates an output signal that is provided to an indicator when a threshold level of smoke is detected. The output signal is typically latched by a relay that is also located within the housing.
