Multimodality markers for delineation of a region of interest (ROI) within a patient's body are disclosed. The markers may comprise a hermetic bio-compatible container and an external element that is associated with the hermetic bio-compatible container. A unique collective identification (ID) is assigned to each of the markers. The collective ID can comprise a visible component seen on an imaging system and an electronic component stored in a microelectronic chip and embedded within the hermetic bio-compatible container.

Multimodality ID markers for delineating the position of a region of interest (ROI) within a body

The combination of a marker system with binocular AR glasses to create a soft tissue procedure system used for surgery, biopsies, etc. A marker localization system is functionally integrated with augmented reality (AR) glasses. This soft tissue system can be applicable for AR surgeries in soft tissues involving mobile and static anatomies anywhere in the body, such as for example, breast, soft tissue, lungs, lymph nodes, liver surgeries, etc. By the placement of single or multiple markers and localizing the markers with a locator, such as a hand-held locator as a non-limiting example, the above-mentioned system provides a real-time intraoperative coordinate frame for the virtual projection of the markers (and the associated ROI) on/in the surgical field/biopsy field of view, using commercial off-the-shelf computer hardware (laptops, tablets, etc.) for the required image processing.

Augmented reality soft tissue biopsy and surgery system

The disclosure is directed to a novel technique for anatomically orientating a removed tissue specimen with the margins of the tissue from which it has been removed. An example process of marking the margins of the excised surgical specimen and the anatomically adjacent in vivo margins can be implemented by a surgeon at the time of removal of the surgical specimen. After removing the surgical specimen from its adjacent tissue, a surgical cavity is generated. Thereafter, locations around the surface margins of the specimen and appropriate locations on the margins of the surgical cavity are marked with one or more pairs of markers (SpM and IVM respectively) with matching identities.

Method for delineating and linking/correlating opposing margins of a pathology specimen and immediately adjacent remaining in vivo margins

A system for localizing a region of interest (ROI) within a patient's body is disclosed. An embodiment of the system may comprise a pad that can be placed in association with the patient's body; one or more markers which are placed within a patient's body in association with the ROI, each marker being associated with one or more antennas and a unique collective ID; a locator comprising one or more antennas for transmitting/receiving a microwave (MW) signal into/from the patient's body in order to identify the one or more markers and a processing unit that is configured to control the operation of the system and for determining the distance from the locator to each one of the one or more markers.
