Devices, systems, and techniques are described for dynamic binding for computer-readable tags. A computer-readable tag may be associated with an item by scanning the tag while information about the item is open on a computing device, or by scanning the computer-readable tag and a second tag associated with the item. This may allow, for example, retailers to effectively update data associated with a computer-readable tag at the time of a sale.

Dynamic binding for computer-readable tags

An automated registration service supported on an application server that interoperates with an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) core network is configured to dynamically register and deregister devices that are all associated with one or more commonly-utilized phone numbers. The service may assign the phone number to registered devices and, in contrast, un-assign the phone number from deregistered devices. The registration and deregistration of the devices may occur based on the amount of interaction with the device and other real-time contextual information. Furthermore, the automated registration service intelligently determines which registered devices to forward incoming video and/or audio calls to based on various contextual information, including the capabilities of device, identified location of a user, user preferences, etc. By intelligently selecting which devices should receive an incoming call, unnecessary use of bandwidth, data, and resources (e.g., battery power) can be reduced.

Automatic forwarding of incoming calls based on user interaction with devices

Mobile devices are provisioned that do not have a direct communications path to a data network. A proximate device is discovered that is available for connecting to the mobile device via a peer-to-peer connection. The proximate device is determined to be trusted by the mobile device and usable to communicate to the data network A peer-to-peer connection is established with the proximate device. Identification data is provided to the proximate device, and an activation code is received. The mobile device communicates to the mobile network operator indicated by the activation code. Subscription credentials are received for accessing a mobile network operated by the mobile network operator.

ESIM profile discovery

Embodiments manage use of different network connections for data transfer in view of priority information and a data usage plan identifying threshold limits associated with the different network connections. A computing device receives data transfer requests from applications executing on the computing device. The data transfer requests have priority information associated therewith. The computing device compares the priority information with available network connections. One or more of the data transfer requests are selected for initiation based on the comparison and on the threshold limits.

Managing data transfers over network connections based on priority and a data usage plan

A device state service supported on an application server is disclosed herein. The device state service is configured to dynamically monitor a device state across devices, and particularly monitor whether or not a device is currently active (e.g., incoming or outgoing ringing, incoming or outgoing busy signal, audio and/or video call in progress, etc.) The active device transmits device state data along with context data and sensor data (collectively 'real-time data'). The inactive (or subject) devices may likewise transmit real-time data to the device state service. The device state service determines an action for the subject and/or active devices to perform based on the received real-time data. For example, when a user's smartphone is currently active (e.g., a call in-progress), the user's tablet may enter a power save mode to save resources.

Notifications to all devices to update state

An automatic response service supported on an application server that interoperates with an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) core network is configured to dynamically generate responses to unanswered incoming telephone calls to a user's computing devices that are customized for the calling party based on monitored activities of the user, device capabilities and state, and related context. The automatic response service can monitor the user's interactions across a range of computing devices to identify a device with which the is actively engaged. Data from device registrations with the IMS core network can indicate current device capabilities and device state such as peripheral device configuration and network connectivity. Along with call data such as caller ID, the monitored user activities and device information enable the service to automatically respond to incoming calls on behalf of the user with information that is meaningful and contextually-relevant to the calling party.

Automatic responses to incoming calls based on user activity

Various technologies described herein pertain to utilization of shared Wi-Fi. For instance, network access rights of a Wi-Fi network can be controlled by a mobile device of a point of contact for the Wi-Fi network. Moreover, utilization of a Wi-Fi network can be tracked and usage data indicative of historic utilization of the Wi-Fi network can be retained. Further, groups of users between whom Wi-Fi credentials are shared can be created.

Shared Wi-Fi usage

Described herein is a system and method leveraging infrastructure and client based location information in a hybrid positioning model. Location information can be received from a client device by a geospatial service component. For example, the location information can be calculated using fine time measurement (FTM) of IEEE 802.11mc and an access point. Positioning information can be determined based, at least in part, upon the received location information. The positioning information can include information regarding a physical environment of the client device. The positioning information can be provided to the client device.

Leveraging infrastructure and client based location information in a hybrid positioning model

eSIM profile discovery

Various technologies described herein pertain to configuring an access point in a local network for operation in a community Wi-Fi network. The community Wi-Fi network includes access points in differing local networks that share respective network bandwidth capacities with member computing devices of the community Wi-Fi network. A request to join the access point to the community Wi-Fi network is transmitted from the access point to a community aggregation system. Responsive to the request, the community aggregation system transmits a firmware update to the access point. The access point installs the firmware update in memory of the access point. Moreover, responsive to installation of the firmware update, the access point can share network bandwidth capacity with the member computing devices of the community Wi-Fi network. Further, the community aggregation system supports transparent handoffs between access points in to the community Wi-Fi network.

Community Wi-Fi network joined access point configuration

Embodiments produce a set of instructions for connecting to a network through a network access point based on data crowdsourced from mobile computing devices. The crowdsourced data describes interactions between the mobile computing devices and the network access point when establishing a connection to the network. A cloud service analyzes the crowdsourced data to identify a set of instructions for association with the network access point. The mobile computing devices replay the set of instructions when subsequently attempting to connect to the network access point.

Generating sequenced instructions for connecting through captive portals

Embodiments provision captive portals on network access points (NAPs). In response to a request from a NAP owner, a cloud service associates a NAP with the NAP owner and provides a control channel for configuring the NAP. The NAP owner inputs configuration settings describing the captive portal. The cloud service processes the configuration settings to generate configuration data. The cloud service transmits the configuration data to the NAP. The NAP applies the configuration data to configure the NAP. Some embodiments configure Wi-Fi hotspots with captive portals for gated access to the Internet.

A location-aware task automation service is configured to dynamically monitor locations and context associated with a group of users of mobile devices to identify a commonly shared goal of the group and perform automated actions to assist the group in achieving the goal. For example, the common group goal could include being at the same location at the same time to attend an event such as a show or party. By tracking the location of each member of the group, and monitoring applicable context such as traffic conditions, the service can predict when one or more of the group members is likely to be late to the event, and then perform automated tasks to assist the members in dealing with the delay such as identifying a faster route to the location. The service can also let other group members know of the delay by sending out notifications to their devices.
