Systems and apparatuses are provided for negating the degradation effects of fundamental coupling between at least two near field communication (NFC) enabled devices, at least one of which can receive frequency modulation (FM) signals. Due to the fundamental coupling, strong NFC signals can mix with blocking signals associated with a desired/tuned-to FM frequency causing degradation in FM receiver performance. By utilizing a notch filter at the front end of the FM receiver, the degradation in FM receiver performance caused by the fundamental coupling phenomenon can be avoided.

Reducing receiver performance degradation due to frequency coexistence

Techniques and devices are disclosed to provide multi-stage gain control in circuits or devices having two or more stages of signal amplification. A circuit with multi-stage gain control can include amplification stages coupled to receive an input signal and to produce an amplified output signal. Each amplification stage includes an amplifier that is adjustable in gain and a signal detector that is coupled to measure an output signal of the amplifier and to produce a detector signal indicative of a signal strength of the output signal of the amplifier. A gain control circuit is coupled to receive detector signals from the signal detectors in the amplification stages, respectively, and to control gains of the amplifiers of the amplification stages based on respective received detector signals, respectively.

Multi-stage gain control in receivers and other circuits

Aspects of a method and system for sharing low noise amplifier (LNA) circuitry in a single chip Bluetooth and wireless local area network (WLAN) system are disclosed. Aspects of the system may comprise a chip with integrated WLAN and Bluetooth radios. RF signals may be received via a single antenna coupled to a shared LNA integrated in chip. When WLAN signals are received they are communicated from the shared LNA to a subsequent amplification stage integrated within the WLAN radio. When Bluetooth signals are received they are communicated from the shared LNA to a subsequent amplification stage that comprises a transconductance amplifier integrated within the WLAN radio and an LNA load integrated within the Bluetooth radio. Gains in the LNAs, the transconductance amplifier, and/or the subsequent WLAN amplification stage may be dynamically adjusted. Outputs from the subsequent amplification stages may be communicated to mixers for further processing.

An integrated circuit includes an analog module, digital circuitry, and a border section. The analog module is susceptible to noise and is on a substrate of the integrated circuit. The digital circuitry generates the noise and is on the substrate. The border section is on the substrate and physically separates the analog module from the digital circuitry.

An exemplary embodiment of the present invention described and shown in the specification and drawings is a transceiver with a receiver, a transmitter, a local oscillator (LO) generator, a controller, and a self-testing unit. All of these components can be packaged for integration into a single IC including components such as filters and inductors. The controller for adaptive programming and calibration of the receiver, transmitter and LO generator. The self-testing unit generates is used to determine the gain, frequency characteristics, selectivity, noise floor, and distortion behavior of the receiver, transmitter and LO generator. A linear high powered integrated circuit amplifier includes a plurality of power amplifiers, balanced integrated circuit coupling, and a combining circuit. The balanced integrated circuit coupling couples a signal to the plurality of power amplifiers to the up-conversion module such that the power amplifiers amplify the signal to produce a plurality of amplified radio frequency (RF) signals. The combining circuit is operably coupled to combine the plurality of amplified RF signals to produce a high-powered amplified signal.

A radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) includes a digital to analog converter, an analog to digital converter, and a low noise amplifier. The digital to analog converter (DAC) is operably coupled to convert outbound symbols into outbound baseband signals, wherein the digital to analog converter is fabricated within a DAC portion of a substrate of the RFIC. The analog to digital converter (ADC) is operably coupled to convert inbound baseband signals into inbound symbols, wherein the analog to digital converter is fabricated within an ADC portion of the substrate. The low noise amplifier is operably coupled to amplify an inbound radio frequency (RF) signals. The low noise amplifier is fabricated within a radio portion of the substrate, wherein the DAC portion of the substrate is physically between the ADC portion and the radio portion of the substrate to provide isolation when the low noise amplifier and the ADC are active and the DAC is inactive.

A digital high frequency power detection circuit includes a peak detecting circuit and a peak computing circuit. The peak detecting circuit is operably coupled to detect a peak value of a high frequency signal and includes an amplifier, transistor, and capacitor. The amplifier has a 1input, 2input and an output, where the 1input is operably coupled to receive the high frequency signal. The transistor has an input, a first node, and a second node, where the input is coupled to the output of the amplifier, the second node is coupled to a supply voltage, and the first node is coupled to the 2input of the amplifier. The capacitor is operably coupled to the first node of the transistor and to a reference potential. The voltage imposed across the capacitor represents the peak value of the high frequency signal. A radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) having sectional electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection includes an analog receive section, an analog transmit section, a digital section, a first inductor assembly and a second inductor assembly. The analog receive section is operably coupled to convert inbound RF signals into inbound low IF signals and includes an analog receive ground connection. The analog transmit section is operably coupled to convert outbound low IF signals into outbound RF signals and includes an analog transmit ground connection. The digital section is operably coupled to convert the inbound low IF signals into inbound digital baseband signals and to convert outbound digital baseband signals into the outbound low IF signals, wherein the digital section has a digital ground connection. The first inductor assembly operably couples the analog receive ground connection to the digital ground connection.
