In some implementations, a method includes receiving, from a virtual machine, a request to create a proxy agent configured to monitor an application executing on the virtual machine, wherein the proxy agent is associated with the virtual machine and wherein the virtual machine is unable to host the proxy agent. The method also includes creating the proxy agent based on the request to create the proxy agent. The method further includes receiving monitoring data for the application executing on the virtual machine via the proxy agent. The method further includes transmitting a status of the application or the monitoring data to a server.

An adaptor is provided for a games console which allows users to gain access to interactive television services through the games console. The adaptor includes a television tuner for receiving broadcast television channels, a communications controller which controls communications between the adaptor and the games console and an interface for interfacing the adaptor to the games console. In a preferred embodiment, the adaptor also includes a hard disc for storing video data and for storing game history data. The adaptor may also include a modem via which the user can gain access to remote servers connected to a data network.

In accordance with one or more aspects, a notification of an incoming phone call is received from a phone system. An indication of the incoming phone call is presented to a user, and the user can control the incoming phone call in different manners. The user can request to delay routing the incoming phone call to voicemail, to route the incoming phone call to voicemail without further delay, and to stop ringing of one or more phone handsets of the phone system. One or more of these control requests can be input by the user via a mobile phone and/or a television system.

The client devices also receive off-air media content along with off-air program guide data that corresponds to the off-air media content. A first program source generates first segments of the program, the first segments having a first identified content. A second program source generates second segments of the program, the second segments having a second identified content. Some of the second segments are generated concurrently to have different second identified content. The segments are transported over the network to the customer premises equipment. While being transported, the segments are selectively merged to form the program. The program having temporally adjacent segments. The signals of the merged first and second segments are synchronized to a common time base, and the selection is responsive to identities of the first and second identified content of the program, and demographics of the network and customer premises equipment.
