An electronic contact lens. In some embodiments, the electronic contact lens includes a radio antenna and radio receiver contained within the contact lens, the receiver comprising antenna impedance matching and in-phase and quadrature signal generation such that signals from the antenna are projected into in-phase and quadrature components before mixing with a local oscillator signal in the receiver. The electronic contact lens may further include electronic circuits contained within the contact lens, the electronic circuits receiving data from the radio receiver.

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to a low-power, high-data-rate, radio transceiver inside a contact lens. The radio transceiver includes a phase-locked loop having a frequency acquisition loop that turns on and off based on various performance characteristics of the transceiver. The transceiver also includes wireless power harvesting circuitry that receives a wireless power signal and generates a reference signal that is used by an oscillator within the transceiver.

Systems, devices, and techniques for performing peak detection are described. A described receiver includes a first amplifier to amplify an input signal to generate a first amplified signal; a mixer to downconvert the first amplified signal to generate a downconverted signal; a second amplifier to amplify the downconverted signal to generate a second amplified signal; a filter, being selectably engageable by the receiver, a peak detector configured to perform voltage measurements of the second amplified signal; and switch circuitry. The switch circuitry is configured to selectably disengage the filter during a first measurement phase during which a first voltage measurement performed by the peak detector is indicative of an output voltage swing of the first amplifier, and to selectably engage the filter during a second measurement phase during which a second voltage measurement performed by the peak detector is indicative of an output voltage swing of the second amplifier.
