A scrubber device for removing finely divided contaminants including gases from a gas stream is disclosed. The device comprises a housing defining a pretreatment section, an implosion section, and a diffusion section. The pretreatment section includes an inlet for directing a gas stream therein and means which define an annular flow path between the pretreatment section and the implosion section for the gas stream. The implosion section is disposed in the housing and is configured such that as the gas stream flows through the annular passage, it is directed radially inward. Means for supplying a liquid to the implosion section is also included, such that as the gas stream passes through the implosion section, finely divided liquid particles are entrained in the gas stream. The diffusion section is configured to receive the gas stream from the implosion section and includes means for removing the finely divided liquid particles. The now clean gas stream is then directed out of the diffusion section. The associated method comprises using the scrubber device previously described and directing a stream of gas through it such that finely divided contaminants are removed by various mechanisms. By the use of the scrubber device and related method of the present invention, even finely divided contaminants in the order of micron or submicron size diameters can be removed.

Gas scrubber and related method

A scrubber device for removing finely divided contaminants from a gas stream is disclosed. The device comprises first and second conduits each of which has an inlet and an outlet with nozzle means and flow guide means disposed adjacent the end of each outlet. The nozzles are configured such that the flow path of the discharge of the first conduit intersects the flow path of the discharge of the second conduit. The flow guide means are configured so as to regulate the flow path of the gas stream through each conduit such that a collision zone is created thereinbetween. Further, the flow guides act so as to improve the collection efficiency of the scrubber. In this manner, contaminants in each respective stream are caused to be removed by inertial impaction. By the use of the scrubber device of the present invention, even finely divided contaminants in the order of 0.1 microns diameter to 3 microns diameter can be removed.

Particle scrubber and related method

A pre-atomized spray scrubber and related method is disclosed. The scrubber has special utility in the removal of particulate and gaseous contaminants from a gas stream and comprises a housing defining a flow path therethrough. The housing is divided into first and second sections by a deck which is configured such that as the gas stream flows through the first section, it flows across the deck and then into the second section. A series of liquid spray nozzle banks are disposed in the housing, either in the first or second section and are arranged and configured so as to aid in directing the gas stream from the first section into the second section. An entrainment separator is also preferably disposed in the housing to further aid in the removal of the contaminants from the gas stream.

Preformed-spray scrubber

Fine particles contaminating a gas stream are removed from the gas stream by moving the gas stream at a velocity of between 50 and 500 feet per second; dispersing relatively larger solid collector particles in the gas stream to cause the collector particles to capture the fine particles by interception and inertial impaction and thereby form agglomerates consisting of the collector particles having the fine particles adhered thereto; and removing the agglomerates from the gas stream. Following removal from the gas stream the agglomerates may be cleaned to separate the fine particle material from the collector particles so that the collector particles can be redispersed into the gas stream.

Removal of fine particles from a gas stream by solid particle addition

A method and system for collecting fine particles from a gas stream is disclosed. A shallow dense mobile bed of solid collector granules is moved over a plate containing a plurality of perforations; and a gas stream containing fine particles is moved upward through the perforations to form high velocity gas jets moving upward through the granule bed for causing the collector granules to collect the fine particles from the gas stream by inertial impaction and interception. The bed is only deep enough in relation to the velocity of the gas jets to prevent the gas jets from penetrating the bed without the fine particles therein being collected by the granules. The granule bed is not more than approximately one inch deep. Preferably the granules are moved over a plurality of perforated plates that are positioned in tandem vertically, and the gas stream is moved successively through the perforations in the plurality of plates and thereby through the granules that are moving across the plurality of plates.
