Systems and methods for connecting (and/or splicing) ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) precast elements are provided, as well as the finished connected UHPC elements after connection. The UHPC precast elements can be designed for applications in building construction and/or civil engineering. Overhang connection structures and spar connection structures are provided. In either case, holes can be created in one UHPC beam segment (e.g., by casting or drilling) to accommodate dowel bars from a corresponding UHPC segment.

Systems and methods for connecting UHPC structural elements

Systems and methods for connection between precast concrete elements are provided. Near-surface mounting bars (NSMBs) can be used to connect panel elements (e.g., decks and/or slabs), concrete walls, retaining walls, and/or abutments. A straight or butt connection can be used for panel and wall elements, and a staggered or lap connection can be used for panel elements. The connection systems offer new ways for connecting precast concrete walls and deck panels.

Connection of precast concrete panels and walls using near surface mounted bars

The subject invention pertains to a completely new pile splicing system called Grouted Sleeve Coupler Splice (GSCS) for Precast Concrete Piles (PCPs) as an innovative alternative splicing method for connecting driven PCP segments. The provided splicing method is applicable for preplanned situations and provides a durable, labor-friendly, rapid, and economical foundation construction method. In this system, to improve the structural performance, the entire sleeve coupler and a portion of the dowels are partially debonded in short lengths from surrounding concrete. This connection system is novel in conjunction with PCPs and for connecting separate precast pile segments. The provided system offers a completely unique and new method of connecting and splicing PCP segments and other prismatic prefabricated piles.

Grouted sleeve coupler splice (GSCS) for precast concrete piles

Connection systems and methods for connecting cross-frames to girders in skewed structure. A Tee section can be welded to a girder, and cross-frame members can be welded to the flange of the Tee section. The flange of the Tee section can have main cut-outs to separate the web of the Tee section from the flange of the girder. The flange of the Tee section can optionally have edge cut-outs for providing airflow, such as in humid regions with high potential for corrosion.

Connection systems and methods for skewed frames

Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) sheet or jacket systems and methods are provided as an alternative splicing method to connect driven pile segments or other structural members. These systems are applicable to both unforeseen and preplanned splicing situations and can be used in the unforeseen condition when other splice systems may fail to provide the required capacity.

Near-Surface Mounting Bar (NSMB) Pile Splice systems and methods are provided as an alternative splicing method to connect driven precast concrete pile segments. These systems are applicable to both unforeseen and preplanned splicing needs and provide excellent advantage especially for the unforeseen condition when other splice systems fail to provide the required capacity. These systems offer completely unique and new methods of connecting and splicing precast prestressed concrete pile segments and all other prismatic precast concrete elements.
