There is provided a secondary battery comprising an electrode assembly including a first electrode plate having a first electrode tab, a second electrode plate having a second electrode tab and a separator between the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate, a case including a body accommodating the electrode assembly, a cap plate covering a top portion of the body, and a bottom plate covering a bottom portion of the body, a first electrode terminal electrically connected to the first electrode tab, a second electrode terminal electrically connected to the second electrode tab through the case, and a connection plate electrically connected to the second electrode tab and configured to bend away from the bottom plate, the connection plate being on the bottom plate.

Secondary battery

A secondary battery includes an electrode assembly including a first uncoated portion extending in a first direction, and a second uncoated portion extending in a second direction opposite to the first direction; a case accommodating the electrode assembly; a first terminal extending to an outside of the case and being connected to the first uncoated portion; a first cover plate coupled to the first terminal and closing the case in the first direction, the first terminal being insulated from the case; a connection plate connected between the second uncoated portion and the case; and a second cover plate covering the connection plate and closing the case in the second direction.

A secondary battery according to embodiments of the present invention can reduce or prevent an uncoated portion and the rest of an electrode assembly from being damaged when the uncoated portion and a collector plate are coupled to each other using laser welding. The secondary battery includes a case having an internal space, an electrode assembly accommodated in the case, the electrode assembly having a coated portion coated with an active material and an uncoated portion without the active material, and a collector plate including a first collector plate and a second collector plate coupled to the uncoated portion, wherein first protrusions of the first collector plate and second protrusions of the second collector plate are engaged with each other with the uncoated portion interposed therebetween, and a boundary surface between the first protrusions and the second protrusions is configured to deviate with respect to a direction in which the collector plate is coupled to the uncoated portion.

A rechargeable secondary battery including: a case; an electrode assembly accommodated in the case, the electrode assembly including an active material coating portion and an active material non-coating portion; a light absorbing member coupled to the electrode assembly; and a collector plate welded to the electrode assembly and contacting the active material non-coating portion.

Rechargeable secondary battery

A secondary battery includes an electrode assembly having a relatively large capacity due to reducing a width of an uncoated portion and increasing a width of a coated portion by improving welding strength through a combination of ultrasonic welding and laser welding, and a manufacturing method thereof. The manufacturing method of the secondary battery includes preparing at least one electrode assembly including an uncoated portion, provisionally welding the uncoated portion by ultrasonic welding, coupling a current collector having an elastic property to the provisionally welded uncoated portion, and welding the uncoated portion and the current collector by laser welding.

A rechargeable battery including a case; a cap plate installed on the case; and a terminal, the terminal including a terminal pillar protruding from the cap plate, and a terminal plate coupled to the terminal pillar, wherein the terminal pillar includes a first pillar coupled to the terminal plate; second pillar coupled to the first pillar, and a welding member on an exterior of the first pillar or the second pillar.
