Provided is a system and method for transmitting and receiving 3D video based on digital broadcasting. The system includes: an encoder for generating 2D ES and 3D supplementary ES by encoding 2D video and 3D supplementary data; a packetizer for generating 2D video PES and 3D supplementary PES by packetizing the 2D video ES and the 3D supplementary ES; a PSI generator for generating a PSI; a TS generator for generating 2D video TS and 3D supplementary TS for the 2D video PES and the 3D supplementary PES; a multiplexer for multiplexing the transport streams to transmit the 2D video TS as a normal stream and transmit the 3D supplementary TS, the PSI TS and 3D video synch data TS as robust stream; and a modulator for modulating the multiplexed TS according to a DTV specification and transmitting the modulated TS.

System and method for transmitting/receiving three dimensional video based on digital broadcasting

Provided is a Vestigial Side Band Digital Television (DTV) transmitter/receiver based on Advanced Television System Committee A/53. The invention provides DTV transmitter/receiver having a dual stream structure through generation of robust data which has a transmission rate a fourth as fast as that of normal data, and a method thereof. The DTV transmitter includes: input means for receiving digital video data stream including normal and robust data; encoding means for performing &#xbc; rate coding on the digital video data stream so that one bit can be transmitted through two symbols; and transmitting means for modulating/transmitting output signals of the encoding means. This invention can reduce SNR and satisfy TOV of robust data by performing additional FEC on robust data, transmitting/receiving &#xbc; rate coded robust data, which are capable of transmitting one-bit data for two symbols, and improving decoding ability of an equalizer and a trellis decoder of a DTV receiver.

Digital television transmission and receiving apparatus and method using 1/4 rate coded robust data

The conventional decision feedback equalizer has a drawback that can't decide symbols correctly because a simple slicer is used as a symbol detector. A decision feedback equalizer as a symbol detector uses a Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) decoder whose Trace Back depth is 1 (TBD=1), to thereby decide symbols correctly without decoding delay.

Provided is a modulating apparatus and method of an on-channel repeater. An object of the present invention is to provide a modulating apparatus of an on-channel repeater for reducing time delay by configuring and up-sampling a baseband signal, filtering the up-sampled baseband signal with an Equi-Ripple (ER) filter or in a window method, and converting the filtered baseband signal into an RF signal. The modulating apparatus includes: a baseband signal configuring unit for configuring a baseband. signal by combining an input field and a segment sync signal; a pilot adding unit for adding a pilot signal to the baseband signal; a filtering unit for filtering the baseband signal with the pilot signal; and an RF up-converting unit for up-converting the filtered signal into an RF signal. Apparatus and method for modulating of on-channel repeater

Provided is a method for searching for an optimal coder suitable to a dual stream transmission method of a DTV transceiving apparatus, and an encoder and a decoder employing the optimal coder searching method. The optimal coder searching method includes the steps of: a) determining a mixed pattern of normal stream and robust stream; b) determining a trellis structure of the robust stream which is applied to the mixed pattern based on how coders are connected; c) forming a dual stream trellis by mixing a trellis of the normal stream, which is a normal stream trellis, and a trellis of the robust stream, which is a robust stream trellis; d) computing a free distance at departing points of the dual stream trellis structure based on a dual stream free distance computation termination condition; and e) determining the optimal coder based on the free distance.

Optimal TCM codec search method for dual stream systems, and encoder/decoder using the same

Provided are a method of estimating an encoder for dual stream transmission, and an encoder using the same. The method includes the steps of: a) setting up the number of memories required for an encoder, a free distance condition for robust data, and a free distance condition for mixed stream of robust data and normal data; b) obtaining &#xbd; rate encoder combinations that sustain backward compatibility with a typical trellis encoder; c) obtaining encoder combinations H that satisfy the free distance condition for the robust data and the free distance condition for the mixed stream from the &#xbd; rate encoder combinations; d) obtaining relations between memories and input/output signals, which satisfy the encoder combinations H; and e) configuring an encoder according to the obtained relation between the memories and the input/output signals.

On-channel repeating apparatus and method for terrestrial digital television broadcasting service

Provided are an on-channel repeater and a method thereof. The repeater receives signals on one channel and distributes the signals on the same channel by converting RF signals from a main transmitter into baseband signals; equalizing them in a high-performance equalizer, adding a repeater identifier to them; modulating the baseband signals with the repeater identifier into RF signals. The repeater includes: a receiver for receiving RF signals; a demodulator for demodulating the RF signals into baseband signals; an equalizer for equalizing the baseband signals; an adder for adding a repeater identifier to the baseband signals; a modulator for modulating the baseband signals with the repeater identifier added in the adder into RF signals; and a transmitter for transmitting the RF signals modulated in the modulator. The technology of the present invention is used to form an on-channel repeating network in an arbitrary transmission system including a digital television broadcasting system.

There is provided to an apparatus and method for selecting a beam having an optimal channel characteristic among multiple beams, which are formed at a digital TV receiver employing a switched beamforming part. The beam selecting apparatus of the digital TV receiver having a switched beamformer and a channel equalize includes: a correlating unit for calculating cross-correlation values with respect to previous known Field Sync signals and Field Sync signals of beams having energy larger than a predefined value among beams outputted from the switched beamformer; a channel profile extracting unit for extracting multi-path channel profiles of the beams by using the cross-correlation values; an effective signal path searching unit for obtaining the number of effective signal paths having values larger than a predefined threshold based on the channel profiles; and a beam selecting unit for selecting beams of a channel profile having the smallest number of the effective signal paths among the beams outputted from the switched beamforming means as an input beam of the channel equalizer.
