A drawing and ironing assembly including a punch movable along a path having a plurality of spaced ironing die assemblies with the last of the ironing die assemblies having twin spaced lands, the diameter of the second twin land is slightly greater than the diameter of the first land to produce a very small amount of ironing.

Tandem ironing land assembly

A method of producing stock material wherein a steel base is provided with a layer of tin thereon, the tin-layered steel is then cold rolled and thereafter heated to a temperature above 250.degree. F. but below the melting point of tin; in a second method of producing stock material, the stock is heated above the melting point of tin; also included are methods of producing containers utilizing stock produced by each of said stock producing methods; further included is another method of producing containers wherein a steel base is provided with a layer of tin thereon, heated to a temperature between 250.degree. F. to below the melting point of tin, and thereafter formed into a seamless container.

Method of making tin-layered stock material and containers therefrom

A split punch tool for cooperating with a die block to form the wall of a drawn and ironed container is disclosed herein. The split punch or cooperating die includes a female portion that has a peripheral lip that can be placed in overhanging relation to the periphery of the die block and the female portion has a peripheral ledge which extends perpendicular to the direction of movement of the die block and die with respect to each other and also an inclined surface extending from the inner edge of the ledge or inwardly directed surface. The surfaces are adapted to engage mating surfaces defined on the end of a cylindrical member that forms part of the cooperating die so that the ledge defines a perpendicular support for the cylindrical member.

Split punch for drawing and ironing containers

A drawn and ironed container with a profiled bottom wall is disclosed herein. The profiled bottom wall includes an ellipsoidal dome surrounded by a substantially vertical wall portion which merges with the side wall of the container along an outwardly directed bead. The configuration of the bottom wall substantially increases the resistance to buckling when the container is filled with pressurized product.
