A projection-type image display apparatus having a structure adapted so that the efficiency of the use of light and resolving power thereof can be enhanced. The projection-type image display apparatus includes a light source; a color separation unit separating incident rays according to predetermined wavelengths, and directing the separated rays at different angles; a lens array dividing the rays separated by the color separation unit into predetermined pixels; a driving portion driving the lens array to change the proceeding paths of the color rays; a polarizing beam splitter changing a proceeding path of incident rays depending on a direction of polarization; a reflection-type display device producing a color image using the rays entering via the polarizing beam splitter, and reflecting the color image toward the polarizing beam splitter; and a projection lens unit magnifying and projecting an incident image onto a screen. In addition, the projection-type image display apparatus may comprise. Alternative designs include a transmission-type display device in place of the reflection-type display device and a deflector changing the proceeding paths of the individual color rays separated by the color separation unit instead of the driving portion.

Projection-type image display apparatus and method

An optical data storage system writes or reads information with respect to an optical storage medium using an optical pickup including a solid immersion optical system or a solid immersion lens for generating a near-field and emitting a light beam. The optical storage medium includes a recording layer which is formed on a surface of an optical transmissive layer opposite to another surface of the optical transmissive layer which opposes the solid immersion optical system or solid immersion lens. The thickness of the optical transmissive layer is larger than one wavelength of the light beam. The interval between the surfaces of the solid immersion lens or solid immersion optical system and the optical transmissive layer is smaller than one wavelength of the light beam. Thus, the light beam reflected from the inside of an air gap and the inside of the optical storage medium between the air gap and the recording layer does not function as noise with respect to the light reflected from the recording layer. Also, since the thickness of a protective layer or a substrate which is an external surface of the optical storage medium can be thickened, information can be written or read with respect to the optical storage medium even when the optical storage medium has dust and/or damage.

With the variable capacitor and the memory device employing the same, the variable capacitor allows the correction of a capacitance error caused during the manufacturing process by varying the capacitance of the capacitor through the electrical driving voltage and provides compatibility in use to be fit to the specification of an electronic unit to which the capacitor is to be applied. The memory device can store multiple values more extensive than binary values in one memory cell, to increase the data storage density thereof.

An optical disc for an optical near-field recording having a surface with a textured structure formed with a plurality of bumps and craters, and a method of manufacturing the optical disc. An optical flying head has a slider which contacts the bumps when in a parking zone (non-moving state) so that a contact area between the optical disc and the optical flying head is reduced. Since a multi-layer unit can be molded continuously by using the molten resin according to the present invention, there is the advantage of improved productivity.

Multi-layer optical recording medium manufacturing method and apparatus

A multi-layer optical recording medium manufacturing method and apparatus thereof forms a resin layer having a second recording layer on a first recording layer. The first recording layer includes a reflecting layer and a first recording layer sequentially formed on a transparent substrate. The multi-layer optical recording medium manufacturing apparatus includes an upper and a lower mold on which is respectively fixed the transparent substrate and a stamp such that they are facing each other. Communicating holes formed in the transparent substrate and the stamp are formed in center portions of each of the molds. A punch member capable of vertical movement is established in the communicating hole of the lower mold, and resin supply established in the communicating hole of the upper mold. The above apparatus has the advantage of improving productivity of the manufacture of a multi-layer optical recording medium.
