A nuclear imaging system and method for performing three-dimensional imaging of anatomical structures. The system and method includes two or more gamma ray detectors each used in combination with a variable-slant hole collimator. The detectors are positioned in close proximity to, or in contact with, the structure being imaged. The detectors remain in a stationary position during the data collection process. An imaging or reconstruction method is then used to reconstruct a three-dimensional image from the data derived from the detectors.

Method and apparatus to obtain limited angle tomographic images from stationary gamma cameras

A radiation detection system using time of flight (TOF) information within multiple optical fiber complexes coupled with a scintillating material at intersections of repeatedly crossing over shape. Light detectors are placed at the ends of each fiber to detect scintillation events. A timing processor is collecting light detector signal to compute TOF difference and estimate the location and strength of radioactivity. The system is scalable in one dimension, capable of being shaped or curved, and customizable in terms of special resolution and sensitivity. The system is suitable for long range and coarse radiation detection.

Method and apparatus for radiation detection based on time-of-flight within optical fibers

A variable angle slant hole (VASH) collimator for providing collimation of high energy photons such as gamma rays during radiological imaging of humans. The VASH collimator includes a stack of multiple collimator leaves and a means of quickly aligning each leaf to provide various projection angles. Rather than rotate the detector around the subject, the VASH collimator enables the detector to remain stationary while the projection angle of the collimator is varied for tomographic acquisition. High collimator efficiency is achieved by maintaining the leaves in accurate alignment through the various projection angles. Individual leaves include unique angled cuts to maintain a precise target collimation angle. Matching wedge blocks driven by two actuators with twin-lead screws accurately position each leaf in the stack resulting in the precise target collimation angle. A computer interface with the actuators enables precise control of the projection angle of the collimator.

Apparatus and method for variable angle slant hole collimator

A method for image reconstruction of moving radionuclide distributions. Its particular embodiment is for single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging of awake animals, though its techniques are general enough to be applied to other moving radionuclide distributions as well. The invention eliminates motion and blurring artifacts for image reconstructions of moving source distributions. This opens new avenues in the area of small animal brain imaging with radiotracers, which can now be performed without the perturbing influences of anesthesia or physical restraint on the biological system.

Method for image reconstruction of moving radionuclide source distribution

An irrigator for applying an irrigating solution to internal body cavities. A housing defines a first chamber for holding a supply of irrigating solution liquid for irrigating a body cavity and a second chamber for receiving waste liquid from the body cavity. A first single action pump in the housing receives a measured quantity of liquid from the first chamber and pumps the same into the body cavity. A second single action pump in the housing withdraws waste liquid from the body cavity and discharges the liquid into the second chamber. The first and second pumps are of the piston and diaphragm type, and each is provided with a port in communication with a single common conduit connectable with the body cavity.
