The present invention relates a symbol generation apparatus for multiple antennas having low receiving complexity and having flexibility with respect to an increase in the number of antennas. The symbol generation apparatus includes a plurality of space-time channel encoders respectively corresponding to a plurality of channels, and an inverse fast Fourier transformer group. The respective space-time channel encoders receive a digital-modulated symbol group from the corresponding channel, perform a space-time encoding operation with respect to a plurality of space areas and at least one time area, shift phases by using a plurality of phase values, and generate a plurality of phase-shifted space-time codewords. The inverse fast Fourier transformer group performs an inverse fast Fourier transform operation by using the plurality of phase-shifted space-time codewords in a plurality of subcarriers respectively corresponding to the plurality of channels, and generates a plurality of inverse fast Fourier transformed signals.

Signal transmission system using multiple antenna and signal transmission method thereof

The present invention relates to a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system for enhancing transmission performance. The MIMO system uses space-time encoding and transmit antenna selection methods, and includes a transmitter () and a receiver (). The transmitter () includes N transmit antennas (--) that are more than M transmit antennas (--) used for transmitting a signal to space channel, selects the M transmit antennas (--) among the N transmit antennas (--), and transmits symbol by space-time encoding the symbol. The receiver () includes M receive antenna (--) for receiving a signal from the space channel, detects an information symbol by using the signal received through the receive antenna (--), generates transmit antenna selection information for selecting M transmit antennas (--) among transmit antennas (i--) with reference to a channel estimate, and returns the information to the transmitter.

Multi-input multi-output system for enhancing transmission performance

Respective codewords of quantization codebooks corresponding to a number of data streams are selected based on channel information estimated by a received training symbol. A stream mode is selected among stream modes to determine a modulation method applied to each data stream. The data stream is detected by using the codeword corresponding to the quantization codebook of the data stream corresponding to the selected stream mode as a precode matrix, and the detected data stream is modulated. In this case, a receiving apparatus performs a feedback operation so that indexes of the selected stream mode and the codeword used as the precode matrix may be transmitted to the transmitting apparatus. The transmitting apparatus selects the number of transmitted data streams and the modulation method based on the transmitted index of feedback streams by the feedback operation.

A sphere decoder sets a Euclidean distance between a lattice vector obtained by using an MMSE or ZF estimate and a received signal as an initial radius, further reduces the initial radius, and searches lattices points included inside a hypersphere with the further reduced initial radius. In addition, one lattice vector having a minimum Euclidean distance is output. One dimension is selected to reduce an initial radius, and estimates in other dimensions are kept fixed, excluding the selected dimension. Then candidate lattice points are searched in the selected dimension, excluding a current estimate, such that a minimum Euclidean distance and a lattice point estimate corresponding to the minimum Euclidean distance are obtained. The initial radius is updated by the minimum Euclidean distance, and a final lattice vector is constructed by combining a lattice point estimate corresponding to the initial radius and the lattice point estimates in other dimensions.

Sphere decoder and decoding method thereof

A receiver according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention receives a transmitted signal, converts the signal to a predetermined symbol, and estimates channel information including a channel gain of a channel of the transmitted signal. In addition, the receiver generates an intermediate processing value for decoding the signal based on the estimated channel information and the symbol, and normalizes the intermediate processing value to the channel gain to generate a reference value. The generated reference value is used for a soft-decision value for decoding the signal. In addition, when the signal is decoded by using a hard-decision value, a constellation point value that is closest to the reference values is generated and set as the hard-decision value.

An apparatus for transmitting signals with multiple antennas is disclosed. The multiple antenna transmission apparatus performs space-time encoding or space-frequency encoding, and cyclically delays the encoded symbol with a plurality of delay-values to generate a plurality of delayed symbols. The multiple antenna transmission apparatus transmits the plurality of delayed symbols to the channel through a plurality of antennas. By changing the number of space areas for encoding and the number of delay-values for delaying, the number of antennas for the multiple antenna transmission apparatus is easily expanded.

Apparatus and method for transmitting signals with multiple antennas

A signal generation apparatus and signal receiving apparatus according to an Interleaved Frequency Division Multiple Access scheme is provided. The signal generation apparatus generates a plurality of complex symbols by digital-modulating a plurality of data symbols, and rotates the generated plurality of complex symbols in a plurality of each different phase angles. The signal generation apparatus generates a plurality of transmission symbols by repeating a plurality of rotated complex symbols at predetermined times, and rotating the repeatedly generated plurality of transmission chips in phase angles of an orthogonal phase sequence for the respective users. When the signal receiving apparatus receives the plurality of transmission symbols generated as described above, the maximum diversity gain may be obtained.

In a method for optimizing a codebook including a quantized channel between a base station transmitter and a portable terminal: a) select the codebook to be optimized; b) a steepest descent algorithm is applied to respective codewords of the codebook selected in a), wherein the codewords are transformed so that a correlation between the codewords is minimized, and a function indicating the correlation between the codewords is differentiated and is multiplied by a predetermined step size and is used for a parameter for generating a new codeword in the steepest descent algorithm; c) it is determined whether the codebook including the codewords transformed in b) is optimized; and d) the codebook is stored when it is determined in c) that the codebook is optimized.

A receiving system for estimating symbol timing in a feed-forward manner comprises: a matched filter for receiving baseband signals and dividing them into real and imaginary numbers; a symbol timing estimator for receiving signals from the matched filter and estimating symbol timing using variables; a storage unit for storing the variables and outputting them according to requests of the symbol timing estimator; an interpolator for receiving a symbol timing estimate from the symbol timing estimator, and interpolating symbol-reading timing of the baseband signal; a delayer for delaying the baseband signal input to the interpolator; an RF/IF signal processor for receiving RF signals and performing RF/IF signal processing; and a baseband converter for converting the signal output from the RF/IF signal processor into baseband signals, and outputting them to the matched filter.
