A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel including first and second substrates and a liquid crystal layer between the first and second substrates; a backlight unit under the liquid crystal panel; a bottom frame including a horizontal surface and first, second, third, and fourth side surfaces, the first side surface corresponding to a first edge of the liquid crystal panel and being opposite to the second side surface, wherein the liquid crystal panel has a size larger than the bottom frame such that a side of the liquid crystal panel protrudes beyond the bottom frame; a main frame including a first guide portion corresponding to the first edge and a second guide portion corresponding a second edge of the liquid crystal panel opposite to the first edge; and an adhesive covering the side of the liquid crystal panel and an outer side of the third and fourth side surfaces.

A backlight unit for a liquid crystal display panel includes a lamp, a plurality of optical sheets, a light guide that guides light from the lamp toward the optical sheets, and a reflector facing a rear surface of the light guide. The light guide includes a first plurality of geometric shapes at the rear surface thereof that substantially directs the light incident on the light guide toward the optical sheets, and a second plurality of geometric shapes at a peripheral portion of the rear surface thereof to prevent the reflector from sticking to the light guide, a density of the second plurality of geometric shapes is less than the density of the first plurality of geometric shapes.

Backlight unit and liquid crystal display device including the same

A liquid crystal display module includes a liquid crystal display panel and a backlight unit under the liquid crystal display panel. The backlight unit includes at least one light emitting diode. The liquid crystal display module further comprises a bottom frame surrounding the backlight unit. The bottom frame comprises a printed circuit board and the at least one light emitting diode is disposed on the printed circuit board. The liquid crystal display module also includes a main frame surrounding the liquid crystal display panel and a top frame surrounding a front edge of the liquid crystal display panel and combined with the bottom frame through the main frame.

A backlight unit for a display device includes a light guide plate formed with a first prism pattern on one of top and bottom surfaces, a lamp including first and second lamp portions facing first and second side surfaces, respectively, of the light guide plate, and a reflector facing the bottom surface of the light guide plate, wherein the first prism pattern is formed in a direction of crossing at least one of the first and second lamp portions.

A method of driving a lamp includes receiving a source power output from a power source; generating a first control signal; adjusting at least one attribute of the received source power based on the first control signal to generate a first lamp-driving power, the first lamp-driving power inducing a first tube current having a first tube current value within the lamp; after generating the first control signal, generating a second control signal, different from the first control signal; and adjusting at least one attribute of the received source power based on the second control signal to generate a second lamp-driving power, the second lamp-driving power inducing a second tube current having a second tube current value within the lamp, wherein the second tube current value is different from the first tube current value.
