A ribbon can be formed from multicore fibers containing multiple cores. The ribbon can be marked at predetermined lengths. The ribbon can be cut at the predetermined lengths to form a plurality of ribbon pieces. The ends of the ribbon pieces can be spliced together based on the marks.

Multicore fiber connectivity

A cable-jetting installation sleeve can be used to advance a fiber-optic cable through a conduit. The cable-jetting installation sleeve can include a housing and an expandable section. The expandable section can include an opening which can be expanded to receive or remove an end of the cable and contracted to engage the cable with the expandable section. A parachute can be positioned on one end of the cable-jetting installation sleeve. The parachute can be pushed by compressed air in the conduit to advance the cable-jetting installation sleeve through the conduit.

Multicore fibers can include multiple cores surrounded by a cladding. The cores of the multicore fibers can be coupled with a transition portion to facilitate a fanout into one or more ribbons having multiple single cores.

An active patch panel assembly splits an optical signal of a fiber optic cable into two signals: a first signal directed to a patch panel port and a second signal measured by an optical sensor unit. A network management service of a computing services resource provider receives signal information from the optical sensor unit regarding the optical signal. The network management server may compare the signal information with signal information received from another patch panel assembly. Based on a correspondence between the signal information of the different patch panels, the network management service may determine a data path association between the optical signals. The data path association may be recorded in a database that stores data path associations of a service provider.
