Methods and systems are described for proximity condition detection of a recovery from sensor proximity saturation caused by water immersion of a user device. The device transmits data at a first transmit power level using an antenna. In one system, a proximity condition checker determines that a first proximity sensor and a second proximity sensor are saturated in an unknown state after a power event where the saturation caused at least in part by the presence of water in proximity to the first proximity sensor and the second proximity sensor. The proximity condition checker determines that 1) both the first proximity sensor and the second proximity sensor are no longer saturated and 2) water is no longer in proximity to the first proximity sensor and the second proximity sensor. In response, the user device can transmit data at an increased second transmit power level using the antenna.

Proximity sensor algorithms to control transmit power of a user device after water immersion

The techniques described herein mitigate the effects of electromagnetic interference, caused by the sending or receiving of data, on a proximity sensor of an electronic device. In some instances, capacitance values measured by the proximity sensor may be inaccurate during times at which the electronic device is sending or receiving data. To mitigate this effect, the techniques take into account the recurrent time slot(s) at which the electronic device is scheduled to send or receive data, and then disregards the capacitance values measured by the proximity sensor at these times.

Techniques to increase accuracy of proximity-sensor measurements

A decision engine executing on an electronic device may determine, using sensor data captured by multiple sensors of the device, whether a user is present in an environment that includes the device. If the user is determined to be present in the environment, the device may transition from a first state to a second state. The first state may be a first power state of the device in which the device is powered off or an idle or dormant state in which the device is powered on but a display of the device is powered off. Correspondingly, the second state may be a second power state of the device in which the device and the display are powered on and content is being rendered on the display. If the decision engine cannot make a determination based on the sensor data, a context engine may adjudicate the user presence determination.

The lens of the camera comprises four molded plastic elements with eight aspheric surfaces at a total thickness of only 3.4 mm that provides a mildly distorted image 1.2 mm across. The relative aperture is 3.5 with a fixed focal distance, providing a depth-of-field spanning a fixed focus region of at least 10 cm in depth that is 25 to 35 cm (centimeters) from the eye. Systems, devices, methods, computer-readable media, techniques, and methodologies are disclosed for generating a template iris pattern using multiple image frames containing image data corresponding to detected light at different wavelengths along the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum including light in the infrared, near-infrared, and/or visible light bands.

Wavelet-based denoising is provided to an image. A corrected reference image is acquired and stored. A test image is adjusted using a selected gain setting such that the mean pixel value of the adjusted test image matches the mean pixel value of the reference image. The adjusted image is decomposed into sub-bands using a wavelet transformation. Thresholding is applied to a selected sub-band with a selected threshold setting. An inverse wavelet transformation is then applied to the sub-bands to provide a denoised image. This process is repeated such that each sub-band is tested with multiple threshold settings. The denoised images are analyzed to locate a threshold setting that is approximately optimal for each sub-band. This process is repeated for multiple light settings. A gain-threshold map is constructed by mapping each selected gain setting to the approximately optimal threshold settings for each sub-band at the selected gain setting.
