A linear actuator has a base, a linear guide coupled to a flat, planar side of the base and extending in a travel length of an object to be moved, a contact plate extending along the flat, planar side of the base, and a carriage. The carriage includes an enclosure formed of an acoustically isolating material, a moving element configured to move along the guide and is coupled to the enclosure, a piezoelectric element including a contact site in physical contact with the contact plate, and a housing elastically holding the piezoelectric element, the housing coupled to the enclosure with no direct contact with the moving element. An electrical power source is in electrical communication with the piezoelectric element, wherein the power source energizes the piezoelectric element to effectuate movement of the carriage along the linear guide via the physical contact between the contact site and the contact plate.

Linear piezoelectric actuator on rail system

A piezoelectric motor with improved efficiency and improved specific power is disclosed. The piezoelectric motor has two frictionally engaged components mounted in such a way that they can move relative to each other. One component is a piezoelectric element in the form of a rectangular plate with metal coatings on its main planar surfaces. This component defines electrodes, where either some or all of the electrodes have leads for connection to a source of alternating voltage. The piezoelectric element is pressed by either its peripheral surfaces or by some parts of its peripheral surfaces at least by one of its sides or a section of one of its side against a cylindrical or planar surface of the other frictionally engaged component. The shape of the piezoelectric element, the arrangement and the number of the electrodes are configured to satisfy the condition of resonant excitation in the piezoelement of the first order mode of bending vibration along the length in the plane of the piezoelement during operation of the motor in one direction, and resonant excitation of the first order mode of longitudinal vibrations along the length during operation of the motor in the opposite direction.

Piezoelectric linear motor

A pressure-assisted precision purge valve system is provided in an evaporative emission control system that provides flow of fuel vapor-air mixture from a fuel tank to an intake manifold. The pressure-assisted precision purge valve system comprises an absorbent canister through which the fuel vapor-air mixture flows, a purge valve configured to regulate flow of the fuel vapor-air mixture to the intake manifold and a fuel vapor pump configured to provide a forced flow to the purge valve dependent on a system differential pressure. The output of the purge valve can be connected to an upstream injection point and/or a downstream injection point of a forced induction device.

Precision purge valve system with pressure assistance

Provided are embodiments of piezoelectric motors which comprise at least one piezo-electrically active part and one passive part which are mounted with the ability of relative movement with respect to each other and which interact with each other by friction. The piezo-electrically active part includes at least one oscillator of acoustic vibrations with one or more piezoelectric elements in the form of a planar ring with acoustically attached flat pushers made from materials such as steel or ceramic. The flat pushers are pressed to a flat surface of the piezoelectric element, either directly or through an elastic element.

Piezoelectric motor with efficient transfer of energy

A piezoelectric motor including a rotor and a piezoelectric actuator positioned relative to the rotor in such manner that a working end of the actuator is in linear, frictional, resilient and forced contact with a working surface of the rotor. The actuator includes a piezoelectric a longitudinal prism shaped resonator with a trapezoidal cross-section and the working end of the actuator is a flat pusher insert set at an angle to the plane of the resonator base. An electronic generator is connected to electrodes of the piezoelectric actuator to excite periodic mechanical oscillations in the actuator wherein the electrodes are applied onto the longitudinal lateral trapezoidal surfaces of the resonator and the piezoelectric resonator is polarized across its width and the electronic generator outputs an alternating electrical voltage signal at a frequency matching the frequency of the first-order natural longitudinal mode of mechanical oscillation along the length of the resonator.

Non-magnetic high-speed piezoelectric rotary motor

A piezoelectric valve has a body with an input passage and an output passage each configured to connect to a fluid flow system, a flow control member movable with respect to the valve seat between a fully open position and a closed position and a piezoelectric motor directly connected to the flow control member. The piezoelectric motor has a piezoelectric resonator in which two orthogonal vibrational modes across a length and a width of the piezoelectric resonator are excited, a working element and one or more contact sites providing frictional contact between the working element and the piezoelectric resonator. One of the working element and the piezoelectric resonator is connected to the flow control member and configured to move relative to the other of the working element and the piezoelectric resonator due to the frictional contact, thereby moving the flow control member.

Piezoelectric valve based on linear actuator

A piezoelectric device includes a piezoresonator body () having opposing first and second surfaces and opposing third and fourth surfaces. The device also includes at least one common electrode () disposed on the second surface () and electrodes () disposed on the first surface () in pairs along a first longitudinal axis. The device further includes contact elements () disposed on the third () and the fourth () surfaces at contact locations along the first longitudinal axis and aligned between each pair of excitation electrodes. In the device, the piezoelectric body has a first order natural resonance frequency (v) along a second longitudinal axis and an even order natural resonance frequency (v) along the first longitudinal axis, where a percent difference between vand vis greater than 0% and less than or equal to 20%.

Piezoelectric quasi-resonance linear motors based on acoustic standing waves with combined resonator

A motorized valve has a housing having an inlet and an outlet to be connected to a pipeline, a saddle connected with the housing, a turn plug having a rod, the turn plug cooperating with the saddle, and a drive for turning the valve body and formed as a piezoelectric drive, the piezoelectric drive including a piezoelectric generator of radially directed standing acoustic waves, which is connected with the housing and is connectable with a pulse current source, and a rotor operatively connected with the piezoelectric generator and kinematically connected with the rod of the turn plug so as to turn the turn plug when the rotor is actuated by the piezoelectric generator.

A piezoelectric device includes a piezoresonator body () having opposing first and second surfaces and opposing third and fourth surfaces. The device also includes at least one common electrode () disposed on the second surface () and electrodes () disposed on the first surface () in pairs along a first longitudinal axis. A piezoelectric motor includes a piezoresonator body () having opposing front and back surfaces and opposing first and second end surfaces. The front () and the back () surfaces are substantially parallel to first () and second () longitudinal axes of the piezoresonator body. The end surfaces () are substantially perpendicular to the first longitudinal axis and substantially parallel to the second longitudinal axis and are separated by a length (L) of the piezoresonator body. The motor also includes at least one common electrode () disposed on the back surface and at least 6n excitation electrodes (-) disposed across the front surface in two symmetric rows extending along L, where n is an integer &#x2267;1. In the motor, the piezoelectric body has an norder longitudinal vibration frequency (&#x3bd;) along L and a 3norder bending vibration frequency (&#x3bd;) along L, and where &#x3bd;and &#x3bd;are substantially equal.

Piezoelectric motor

A piezoelectric motor () includes a stator () having a stator shaft (). The motor also includes an annular piezoelement () having upper and lower surfaces and inner and outer rims retained on the stator. The motor further includes an annular wave shell () on an outer rim of the piezoelement and a rotor coupled to the stator shaft, where the rotor has a rotor inner circumferential surface (). The motor additionally includes elastic pushers (), each having an end coupled to the wave shell and another end extending to and contacting the rotor inner circumferential surface. In the motor, a radius of the outer rim is at least twice the radius of the inner rim and an annular width of the piezoelement is at least twice its thickness.

Piezoelectric motor with high torque

Piezoelectric motor that provides high speed and bi-directional operation. A first rotor is disposed about a first shaft, and a second rotor separate from the first rotor is disposed about the first shaft and a second shaft. Each of the rotors and shafts are centered on a common axis. An annular shaped first piezoelement is centered on the axis and fixed to the housing. First and second annular piezoelements are disposed within the first rotor, configured to motivate rotation of the second shaft in a first rotation direction when stimulated with a first exciter voltage. The third and fourth piezoelement are disposed within the second rotor, configured to motivate rotation of the second shaft in a second direction (opposed from the first direction) when stimulated with an exciter voltage.

Piezoelectric rotary motor with high rotation speed and bi-directional operation

Tubular linear piezoelectric motor (), and a method for exciting a tubular piezoelectric resonator () used in such motor. The motor is comprised of a resonator () formed of a cylindrical tube. The tube has lengthL comprised of a piezoelectric material, where L is some length, and n is an even numbered integer, greater than zero. The piezoelectric material of the cylindrical tube is polarized in a radial direction, perpendicular at each point to the interior and exterior surface of the cylindrical tube. The resonator is excited with one signal having a single exciter frequency applied across an inner electrode () and one or more first outer electrodes (). The single exciter frequency is selected to move a contact site of one or more annular protrusions along an elliptical path when the resonator is excited. The resonator is disposed within an outer tube () and configured so that excitation of the resonator using the first outer electrode(s) produces linear displacement as between the outer tube and the resonator in a first direction. Excitation of a second outer electrode () produces the linear displacement in a second direction opposite to the first direction.

Tubular linear piezoelectric motor

A piezoelectric valve is provided that includes a valve body includes a plug and a drive body coupled to the valve body and operable to cause the rotatable plug to rotate about a rotational axis. The drive body includes a shaft disposed along the axis, the shaft statically coupled to the plug and rotatably coupled to the drive body. The drive body also includes a rotor assembly disposed about the axis and rotatably coupled to the drive body. The drive body further includes a first piezoelectric actuator disposed about the axis and statically coupled to the drive body, the first piezoelectric actuator configured to frictionally engage an inner surface of the rotor assembly. The drive body additionally includes a second piezoelectric actuator disposed about the axis and statically coupled to the shaft, the second piezoelectric actuator configured to frictionally engage the inner surface of the rotor assembly.

Valves based on reversible piezoelectric rotary motor

A piezoelectric generator includes a piezoelectric ring having upper and lower plane surfaces and a first quality factor (Q-factor), a sound-wave conducting gasket acoustically coupled to the upper plane surface, a metal resonator ring positioned acoustically coupled to the conducting gasket, the metal resonator ring having a second Q-factor substantially greater than the first Q-factor, and at least one bent elastic pusher extending from a periphery of the metal resonator ring. In the generator, an external diameter of the conducting gasket is less than half of an external diameter of the metal resonator ring and the piezoelectric ring, the conducting gasket, and the metal resonator ring are concentrically aligned with respect to a rotational axis.
