A method includes: obtaining a stereo pair of images from a stereo camera assembly of a mobile computing device, the stereo pair of images depicting a first marker and a second marker each associated with the mobile computing device; determining, from the stereo pair of images, a distance between the first and second markers; comparing a threshold to a difference between the determined distance and a reference distance corresponding to the first and second reference markers; and when the difference exceeds the threshold, generating an alert notification.

Detection of calibration errors

A method of decoding one or more barcodes on a target object with an imaging scanner is described. The imaging scanner comprises an image sensor and a dynamic linear polarizer. The method includes the following: (1) capturing at least one image of the target object through the dynamic linear polarizer with the imaging sensor while the dynamic linear polarizer is set to a different defined polarization during each of N time periods; and (2) processing at least N images of the target object to decode the one or more barcodes on the target object. At least one image that is captured during each of the N time periods. Here, N is an integer that can be three, four, five, six, or other natural numbers.

Decoding indicia with polarized imaging

A stereo camera device with tilted fields of view is provided, which includes a pair of camera devices located such that respective fields of view (FOVs) of the pair of camera devices are tilted away from each other, and at least partially overlapping in a common working FOV. The device further includes a processor which receives respective images from each of the pair of camera devices, combines respective portions of the respective images corresponding to the common working FOV into stereo images.

Stereo camera device with improved depth resolution

A device and method of dimensioning using digital images and depth data is provided. The device includes a camera and a depth sensing device whose fields of view generally overlap. Segments of shapes belonging to an object identified in a digital image from the camera are identified. Based on respective depth data, from the depth sensing device, associated with each of the segments of the shapes belonging to the object, it is determined whether each of the segments is associated with a same shape belonging to the object. Once all the segments are processed to determine their respective associations with the shapes of the object in the digital image, dimensions of the object are computed based on the respective depth data and the respective associations of the shapes.

Device and method of dimensioning using digital images and depth data

A barcode decoding system and method for compensating for motion of between an image sensor and a barcode to improve decoding of the barcode. The barcode decoding system includes an imager for capturing an image of the barcode, a motion sensor for collecting acceleration data and a processor that is configured to determine a velocity of the image sensor during the exposure period based on the acceleration data and a periodic motion model. The determined velocity is used to adjust the edge detection algorithm used to detect the barcode features in order to decode the barcode. The orientation of the captured barcode can also be determined in order to determine the velocity in a direction perpendicular to the barcode features.

System and method for compensating for motion relative to a barcode

A computing device and method for reading a barcode captured with a color image sensor is disclosed. The barcode can have features and background that have equal brightness and a substantially low chromacity deviation such that the barcode could not be easily perceptible and decoded with known greyscale decoding techniques. The method for reading the barcode includes receiving color image values for each pixel of a captured image of a target barcode from a color image sensor, determining chrominance values for each pixel from the color image values, detecting edges based on the chrominance values to generate an edge-detected image that is provided to a greyscale barcode decoder to decode the information in the target barcode. The chrominance values can be based on the blue and red difference components from the YUV image format, and the U and V values can be combined using color temperature information.

System and method for decoding barcodes not easily perceptible by human vision

A barcode scanner device for reading a target barcode having a plurality of feature sections in a first color and a plurality of background sections in a second color. The device comprises: a light source for providing incident illumination onto the target barcode during reading of the target barcode, the light source having a plurality of independently selectable color wavelengths; a photodetector for receiving at least a portion of the incident illumination when reflected off the target barcode as reflected illumination, the reflected illumination used by the photodetector to capture a first color image of the target barcode when a first color wavelength is selected as the incident illumination and to capture a second color image of the target barcode when a second color wavelength is selected as the incident illumination.

System and method for providing sufficient illumination quality for barcodes captured with a color image sensor

A system and method are provided for barcode scanning for a target barcode comprising: receiving color image values for a captured image of the target barcode from at least one color image sensor; and extracting luminosity values for each pixel of the captured image from the color image values to define greyscale image values corresponding to the color image values. Once the luminosity values are defined, they are provided as greyscale image values to a greyscale barcode decoder for subsequent processing thereof.
