Provide is a method of driving a barrier panel device. Segment driving voltages are controlled to be applied to a plurality of segments of a first electrode of a barrier panel based on a display direction of an image signal displayed on an image display panel of an apparatus for reproducing a 3D image. An odd barrier driving voltage is controlled to be commonly applied to odd numbered barriers of a plurality of barriers of a second electrode of the barrier panel. An even barrier driving voltage is controlled to be commonly applied to even numbered barriers of the plurality of barriers. The segment driving voltage, the odd barrier driving voltages, and the even barrier driving voltages are synchronized.

Barrier panel device for 3D image reproduction, and method of driving same

A high resolution autostereoscopic display includes: a backlight; a display panel forming an image using the backlight light; a viewing zone separator separating viewing zones of right and left eye images of the display panel; a polarizer polarizing the light from the display panel into first polarized light; a polarization switch converting the first polarized light into second polarized light that is polarized in a different direction; and a birefringent plate including a refractive index that varies consistent with the polarization of incident light. Images corresponding to odd and even numbered column fields are formed with the first and second polarized light, time-sequentially. The birefringent plate shifts the second polarized light with respect to the first. A three-dimensional image with the full resolution of the display panel is formed by images corresponding to an odd-numbered and even-numbered column field with the first and shifted second polarized light, respectively.

High resolution autosterioscopic display

An image display apparatus includes a backlight unit where a reflection panel is installed at a bottom thereof, a polarization panel which transmits only light of a particular polarization direction of light emitted from the backlight unit, a polarization switch which changes the polarization direction of incident light, a birefringent element array which is formed by alternately arranging a plurality of first and second birefringent elements and changes the polarization direction of incident light to make the polarization directions of light passing through the first and second birefringent elements perpendicular to each other, a reflective polarizer panel which transmits only light of a particular polarization direction of the light passing through the birefringent element array and reflects light of the other polarization direction, a lens array which separates incident light into a first view zone and a second view zone, and a display panel which displays an image.

Highly efficient 2D/3D switchable display apparatus

A stereoscopic display for switching between a 2D image and a 3D image, including a display device displaying an image; and a parallax barrier that transmits incident light in a 2D mode and forms barriers to separate images for a left eye and a right eye in a 3D mode. The parallax barrier unit includes a first polarization plate transmitting light with a first polarization direction; a 2D first polarization grating screen including a first birefringence element and a second birefringence element alternating with each other in a grating pattern; a 2D second polarization grating screen facing the first polarization grating screen and including a third birefringence element and a fourth birefringence element alternating with each other in a grating pattern; and a second polarization plate facing the second polarization grating screen and transmitting only light with a second polarization direction among lights transmitted through the second polarization grating screen.
