Photoactive polymer coatings and methods of making the same are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a polymer coating comprises a polymer matrix having a porous structure extending throughout the polymer matrix, wherein the porous structure is present at an exposed surface of the polymer coating creating a roughened surface, and a modified support particle disposed within the polymer matrix, wherein the modified support particle includes a substituted phthalocyanine and a support particle. In some embodiments, the substituted phthalocyanine is a halogenated phthalocyanine.

Photoactive polymer coatings

Methods and apparatus for detecting an analyte using fluorinated phthalocyanines is disclosed herein. A method for detecting an analyte includes illuminating an analyte solution which contacts an electrode comprising a conductive material having a photosensitizer coupled thereto to generate a reactive oxygen species, wherein the photosensitizer is a fluorinated pthalocyanine having a metal or a non-metal center, oxidizing an analyte present in the analyte solution with the reactive oxygen species to form an oxidized analyte, and detecting a current resulting from the reduction of the oxidized analyte at the electrode.

Methods and apparatus for analyte detection using fluorinated phthalocyanines

A new class of organic-inorganic hybrid composite materials, composites of a fluoroalkyl fluorophthalocyanine and a solid-state support containing an imidazole group. The new class of composite materials can be used as a heterogeneous catalyst for the heterogeneous oxidation organic molecules in aqueous and some organic solvents systems is claimed.

Stabilized and reactive fluorinated phthalocyanine-functionalized solid-state support composites

A process for use of composite catalysts for oxidation of amines during synthesis of energetic compounds. This method overcomes the safety concerns associated with dangerous reaction conditions for these energetic materials. The process requires exposing phthalocyanine conjugated to an inorganic substrate to the precursor reactant and activating the composite material to light and oxygen to covert amine groups into oxidized nitrogen species.

Process for oxidation of amines in the synthesis of energetic materials

Functionalized fluorine containing phthalocyanine molecules, methods of making, and methods of use in diagnostic applications and disease treatment are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, the fluorine containing phthalocyanine molecules are functionalized with a reactive functional group or at least one cancer-targeting ligand (CTL). The CTL can facilitate more efficient binding and/or internalization to a cancer cell than to a healthy cell. The CTL can inhibit expression of oncoprotein in some embodiments. The pthalocyanine moiety can be used in diagnostic applications, such as fluorescence labeling of a cancer cell, and/or treatment applications, such as catalyzing formation of a reactive oxygen species (ROS) which can contribute to cell death of a cancer cell.

Functionalized fluorine containing phthalocyanine molecules

Coating compositions that include a halopigment dispersed within a silicon-containing polymeric matrix (e.g., a polysiloxane polymer) are provided. The halopigment comprises a halogenated phthalocyanine (e.g., a fluorinated phthalocyanine) attached to a support particle (e.g., a metal oxide, a non-metal oxide, and/or an inert material). The halogenated phthalocyanine can have the formula: (16R-Pc)ML, where each R is, independently, a halogen or a perhaloalkyl group, with each R group being independent from the other groups; Pc is a phthalocyanine compound; 1&#x2266;n&#x2266;2; L is a ligand or ligands and M is a cation; and 0&#x2266;o&#x2266;8. Methods are also provided for forming such a coating composition and for coating a substrate with the coating composition.

Self-cleaning protective coatings

A method of purifying or sanitizing contaminated water to be potable, by exposing the water in the presence of light, to an electrically neutral metal complex of a perfluoroalkylated fluorinated phthalocyanine photosensitizer, having only external R groups with C&#x2014;F bonds, preferably FPcZn; whereby, a sufficient quantity of singlet oxygen is provided by the chemical reaction of the light and the photosensitizer to destroy the pollutants or pathogens present in the contaminated water.

Fluorophthalocyanine photodynamic water sterilization

Perfluoroisopropyl-substituted perfluorophtalocyanines, including zinc (II), copper (II) and oxo-vanadium (IV) complexes of 29H,31H,1,4,8,11,15,18,22,25-octakis-fluoro-2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octakis-perfluoro(isopropyl)phthalocyanine (FPc), may be sublimed under high vacuum conditions. The compounds/molecules produce advantageous thin films (20-100 nm) on glass substrates by physical vapor deposition. Many potential applications of the disclosed compounds/molecules are disclosed, e.g., as semiconductor materials. In situ electrical conduction and optical transmission measurements during the deposition process reveal the formation of conducting pathways and potential microscopic intermolecular electronic couplings.

Thin film applications of perfluoroisopropyl-substituted perfluorophthalocyanines

Coating compositions comprising perfluoroalkyl metallo and non-metallo perfluoro-phthalocyanine compounds and associated coating methods are provided by the present invention. Perfluoroalkyl metallo and non-metallo perfluoro-phthalocyanine compounds are suitable for use as functional coatings and may be optionally combined with conductive polymers. The functional properties imparted generally include one or more of chemical resistance, thermal resistance, biological and chemical non-stick surface behavior, electrochromism, variable electromagnetic field signatures, and/or non-linear optical properties. Advantages of the disclosed perfluoroalkyl metallo and non-metallo perfluoro-phthalocyanine coatings include the fact that an inert uninterrupted fluorinated surface provides for improved hydrophobic properties at the periphery while exhibiting improved hydrophilicity at the center, which in turn results in one or more of the following properties: variable optical, electric and magnetic properties; enhanced durability; and enhanced resistance to chemical and biological surface contamination.
