A connecting rod for an internal combustion engine may include a big end passage for receiving a pin journal of a crankshaft, a small end passage for receiving a piston pin, and a beam extending between the big and small end passages. The small end passage may extend along a passage axis and be delimited by opposed edges. The small end passage may include an inner passage surface with a cylindrical surface portion having a first diameter. The small end passage may extend along the passage axis between the opposed edges. The inner passage surface may comprise profiled regions adjacent to the opposed edges and extending at least over a part of a circumference of the opposed edges. The profiled regions may begin from the cylindrical surface portion and increase into a maximum second diameter at the opposed edges. Further, a plurality of dimples may be positioned along the cylindrical surface portion of the inner passage surface.

Connecting rod

A crank drive has a crankshaft having at least one crank pin having a bearing surface with a concavely curved shape in a longitudinal crankshaft section and a conrod having a big end fitted to the crank pin and having a bearing surface with a convex shape in contact with the concave shape of the bearing surface of the crank pin in a load-bearing area that transmits forces acting between the big end of the conrod and the crank pin when the drive is in use. The shapes of the bearing surfaces are in accordance with the principle of uniformly distributed stresses such that essentially the same equivalent stress is distributed overall in the bearing surfaces in time average.

Crank drive

An inlet and exhaust valve arrangement for an internal combustion engine with a valve disk has at least one passage opening and is arranged in a cylinder head drivable by a shaft in a rotating manner and having a valve seat assigned to a top of the valve disk and at least a port that during rotation of the valve disk is cyclically exposed and closed again by at least one passage opening. The valve disk and the assigned valve seat starting from the shaft run in curve or taper at an angle toward a bottom of the valve disk. The valve disk is elastically bendable such that during rotation the valve disk is deflected and an edge of the valve disk is moved toward the valve seat to define therewith a self-sealing valve arrangement.

The invention relates to a method for producing a crankshaft, in special for diesel engines, wherein a crankshaft blank is produced from austempered ductile cast iron, the casting blank is subjected to heat treatment matched to the austempered ductile cast iron whereby the blank acquires high strength and hardness. According to the invention, surfaces which form bearing surfaces for connecting rods and shaft bearings are undersized before the ADI heat treatment. Following the heat treatment a coating is applied to the bearing surfaces, the layer thickness being matched to the undersize and dimensional deviations as a result of the heat treatment. The coated bearing surfaces are finally finish-machined to the finished size without the need of machining the bearing surfaces of the casting blank after the heat treatment.
