An adaptive congestion control device ('ACCD') may dynamically optimize network congestion control for different active flows. The ACCD may initiate a first flow that is associated with a first set of flow parameters, may select a first congestion control algorithm from a plurality of congestion control algorithms based on the first set of parameters, and may control transmission of packets for the first flow according to the first congestion control algorithm. While the first flow is active, the ACCD may initiate a second flow that is associated with a different second set of flow parameters, may select a different second congestion control algorithm from the plurality of available congestion control algorithms based on the second set of parameters, and may control transmission of packets for the second flow according to the second congestion control algorithm.

Systems and methods for dynamic optimization of network congestion control

Hybrid pull and push based streaming selectively performs a pull-based distribution of a stream to a first point-of-presence ('PoP') of a distributed platform having low demand for the stream, and a push-based distribution of the stream to a second PoP of the distributed platform having high demand for the stream. The push-based distribution may be used to prepopulate the second PoP cache with the live stream data as the live stream data is uploaded from an encoder to a source PoP of the distributed platform, and before that live stream data is requested by the second PoP. In doing so, requests for the live stream data received at the second PoP may result in cache hits with the requested live stream data being immediately served from the second PoP cache without having to retrieve the live stream data from outside the second PoP.

Hybrid pull and push based streaming

The embodiments provide request multiplexing whereby a server receiving a first request for content clones and issues the cloned request to an origin to initiate retrieval of the content. The first request and subsequent requests for the same content are placed in a queue. The server empties a receive buffer that is populated with packets of the requested content as the packets arrive from the origin by writing the packets directly to local storage without directly distributing packets from the receive buffer to any user. The rate at which the server empties the receive buffer is therefore independent of the rate at which any user receives the packets. A first set of packets written to local storage can then be simultaneously distributed to one or more queued requests as the server continues emptying the receive buffer and writing a second set of packets to local storage.

Request multiplexing

Provided is a device that persistently distributes connectionless traffic across different simultaneously executing server instances in a manner that allows a first set of server instances of the device to commence a new first set of connectionless data streams during a first interval, and a different second set of server instances of the device to commence a different second set of connectionless data streams as the first set of server instances respond to ongoing connectionless data streams of the first set of connectionless data streams during a subsequent second interval. The persistent distribution further supports virtual connection migration by distributing, to the same server instance, data packets that are directed to the same connectionless data stream even when the sending user equipment changes addressing during the connectionless data stream.

Persistent distribution of connectionless traffic supporting virtual connection migration

A load balancing appliance distributes data packets across different virtual connections for ongoing communications with clients over a connectionless communication protocol including User Datagram Protocol (UDP) or Quick Internet UDP Connections (QUIC). The load balancing appliance a distributor that binds and listens on a port through which the connectionless traffic is received. The distributor distributes the traffic to a different set of managers at each interval based on each set of managers binding to and listening on a different set of ports. Each set of managers establishes and manages virtual connections establishing during a particular interval, wherein managing a virtual connection involves creating a secondary connection to a back-end server selected for engaging in ongoing communications with a client of the virtual connection, and performing any packet conversions between the virtual connection with the client and the secondary connection to the back-end server in order to bridge the connections.

Systems and methods for load balancing virtual connection traffic

Some embodiments provide systems and methods for sandboxing content optimization to occur entirely within a network edge or PoP of a CDN. Some embodiments pass a first request for a first URL to a first back-end at the network edge that is configured to cache an optimized instance of the particular object. When the optimized instance of the particular object is not cached at the first back-end, a second request is issued for a second URL identifying a non-optimized instance of the particular object. The second request resolves internally within the network edge to a second back-end that is configured to cache the non-optimized object. The non-optimized object from the second back-end is optimized and passed to the first back-end. The first back-end caches the optimized instance of the non-optimized object and serves the optimized instance to a requesting end user.
