An apparatus and method of manufacturing bundles of electrical cables. The bundles include a plurality of main conductors and a plurality of secondary conductors. The main and secondary conductors both include a conductor core and an insulating sheath. The ends of the main conductors include box-like connection elements which are either male plugs or female sockets. The method includes the steps of: stripping an intermediate portion of the main conductors; stripping the ends of the secondary conductor; positioning the stripped portions of the main and secondary conductors tightly against one another; mounting a thimble on the two stripped portions; and mounting a band of cold-deformable insulating material on the thimble. The apparatus includes devices which perform each of these functions.

Apparatus and method of manufacturing electrical cabling systems

A female electrical connector and a male electrical connector. The two connectors are designed to interconnect in a locking relationship. The female electrical connector is an insulative housing member, formed from two parts and a locking mechanism is provided for locking together the two parts. The first of the two parts has a plurality of parallel passages and a cylindrical female contact member retained at one end of each of the parallel passages. Each of the female contact members is attached at one end to an electrical conductor and is provided with a collar proximate the other end. A resilient tang having at least one projection is provided for cooperation with the collar. A latching mechanism is provided for holding the two insulative housing members together. The second part of the female insulative housing member has a body section which is adapted to receive the first part of the female housing member. The body has a back wall with holes aligned with the parallel passages. Either the female or the electrical connector can be provided with a skirt for receiving the other member. A male contact member is retained in each of the passages and is attached to an electrical conductor. A locking mechanism is provided for holding together the first and second parts of the male member. Passages are located in the first part of the male insulative housing member have holes adapted for passage of the cylindrical members and for cooperation with one end of a collet on the male contact member. Resilient tangs cooperate with the other end of the collet. The second part of the male member can be provided with a skirt adapted to receive the first part member of the male member.

Electrical connector

An apparatus for stripping wire conductors formed by a central conducting core housed in an insulating sleeve includes a main frame supporting a clamping device composed of clamping jaws for holding the wire to be stripped, actuators for closing the jaws of the clamping device, cutting nippers with blades for effecting a cut in the insulating sleeve of the wire without cutting into the core of the wire, actuators for closing the blades of the cutting nippers when the jaws of the clamping device are closed against the wire, and actuators for displacing either the clamping device or the cutting device in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the conductor. The elements of the clamping device are arranged in such a way as to permit the clamping jaws to hold the conducting wire tightly under a constant pressure regardless of the cross-cross section of the wire, and wherein the blades of the cutting nippers are directly coupled to the clamping device in such a way that the blades approach one another to a distance corresponding to the distance between the clamping jaws of the clamping device.

Wire stripper

The plugging into a box having several recesses of the ends, having generally crimped connections, of electrical conductors is provided. A box carrier brings a box with a socket into a position fixed in space opposite the connection to be plugged in. This connection is brought into the plugging-in position by means of a gripper actuated by a drum moved by a carriage and acting on a plate which moves the pushrods recalled by springs. The invention applies to the automatic plugging in of electrical conductors.
