Resins for powder coatings which are thermally and radiation curable containing both olefinically unsaturated groups and at least one other reactive group in the same molecules selected from epoxide groups and acid groups, a method for their preparation, and the use thereof in powder coating compositions.

Powder coating composition

A method of use of copolymers containing fluoro groups and hydroxyl groups as additives in powder coating materials, comprising mixing these component with powder coatings resins, the copolymers comprising units of the following monomers: olefinically unsaturated monomers having from 5 to 40 carbon atoms, at least one hydroxyl group, and at least one free-radically polymerizable C&#x2550;C double bond, alkyl esters of monoolefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids or dialkyl esters of olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids or mixtures thereof, and (per)fluoroalkyl esters of said carboxylic acids, and powder coating materials which comprise these additives for the purpose of improving the flow properties and the surface.

Additives for powder coatings

Resins comprising (meth)acrylic unsaturations are obtained by reacting functional groups of unsaturated monomers without solvents at temperatures above 150&deg; C. and under controlled heat exchange, while maintaining intact their unsaturations, with functional groups of saturated and/or unsaturated polymers. The technologies and the work cycles used for conventional resins may also be used for these resin types.

A solid polymer binder for thermosetting powder coating compositions obtained by combining (A) a polyurethane prepolymer containing carboxyl groups and derived from polyisocyanates, hydroxycarboxylic acids and blocking agents different from oximes, containing 1 to 40% by weight of blocked isocyanate groups and having an acid number of 1 to 80, with (B) at least one homo- and/or heterofunctional compound which either contains hydroxyl groups or is capable of forming them by reaction, component (B) being present in an amount such that cross-linked products are formed under stoving conditions, in which the content of COOH-groups is not higher than 1.5% referred to the weight of components (A) and (B), a thermosetting powder composition containing such binder, a metal object coated with such thermosetting powder coating composition, and a process for the manufacture of coatings on metal substrates with such powder coating composition.
