Methods of treating a subterranean formation are disclosed that include placing a treatment fluid into a subterranean formation, the treatment fluid containing a one or more polymers capable of consolidating to form a polymeric structure at a downhole location. Also disclosed are treatment fluids including a polymeric structure for treating a subterranean formation.

Methods of treatment of a subterranean formation with polymeric structures formed in situ

A method of treating a subterranean formation including combining an aqueous fluid, a biomaterial, an enzyme, and a deactivator to form a treatment fluid; and introducing the treatment fluid into the subterranean formation. A method is also disclosed for treating a subterranean formation by preparing a treatment fluid containing an aqueous fluid that contains bacterial and/or fungal cells that produce an enzyme that degrades the biomaterial, a biomaterial, and a deactivator; controlling degradation of the biomaterial by adding an effective amount of the deactivator to the aqueous fluid prior to the preparation of the treatment fluid; and introducing the treatment fluid into the subterranean formation. In the methods, the enzyme degrades the biomaterial and the deactivator is an oxygen-containing arene capable of inhibiting the enzyme from degrading the biomaterial.

Method for treating a subterranean formation

A method of heterogeneous proppant placement in a subterranean fracture is disclosed. The method comprises injecting well treatment fluid including proppant () and proppant-spacing filler material () through a wellbore () into the fracture (), heterogeneously placing the proppant in the fracture in a plurality of proppant clusters or islands () spaced apart by the material (), and removing the filler material () to form open channels () around the pillars (). The filler material can be dissolvable particles, initially acting as a consolidator during placement of the proppant in the fracture, and later dissolving to leave flow channels between the proppant pillars. The well treatment fluid can include extrametrical materials to provide reinforcement and consolidation of the proppant and, additionally or alternatively, to inhibit settling of the proppant in the treatment fluid.

Heterogeneous proppant placement in a fracture with removable extrametrical material fill

A technique facilitates the study of complex fracture networks. A slot manifold is constructed with a system of branched thin channels, e.g. slots, which are joined at intersections. Fluid is flowed through the system of branched thin channels and through an intersection or intersections joining the channels in a manner which enables evaluation of fluid flow. A flow distribution device is used to allow or block flow of the fluid along specific branches of the system of branched thin channels to facilitate evaluation of fluid flow as a fluid moves through various angular changes and/or flow gap width changes from one channel to another.

System and methodology for evaluating fracture networks

An aqueous composition comprising a mineral acid, a fixing agent and water present in an amount sufficient to dissolve the mineral acid and the fixing agent. The fixing agent comprises at least one of an amine and/or an amide containing compound having a dipole moment of at least 3 when in the aqueous composition.

A dust collector is provided for collecting dust generated at the oilfield material reservoir, and a duct in communication with the enclosure and the dust collector is provided for transferring dust generated at the oilfield material reservoir to the dust collector.

A method of treating a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore includes introducing a treatment fluid comprised at least a crosslinkable component, and a metal crosslinker to the subterranean formation, forming a crosslinked treatment fluid, and de-crosslinking bonds of the crosslinked treatment fluid by manipulating a pH of the treatment fluid with a pH triggering agent, wherein the pH triggering agent is an amine-precursor compound or a derivative thereof.

Fluid viscosity control

A method is given for fracturing a formation, in particular far-field in a tight formation, in which at least a portion of the proppant is crushable in situ at some point during pumping, during fracture closure, or at higher stresses experienced later during fracture closure. The closure stress or hydrostatic stress is estimated, then a proppant is selected that is at least partially crushable at that closure stress, and then the fracturing treatment is performed with at least a portion of the total proppant being the selected crushable proppant.

Hydraulic fracturing system

A wellbore fluid comprises an aqueous carrier liquid, hydrophobic fibers suspended therein, hydrophobic particulate material also suspended in the carrier liquid, and a gas to wet the surfaces of the particles and fibers and bind them together as agglomerates. The wellbore fluid may be a slickwater fracturing fluid and may be used for fracturing a tight gas reservoir. Using a combination of hydrophobic particulate material, hydrophobic fibers and gas inhibits settling out of the particulate material from an aqueous liquid. Because the gas acts to wet the surfaces of both materials and agglomerates them, the particulate material is made to adhere to the fibers; the fibers form a network which hinders settling of the particulate material adhering to them, and the agglomerates contain gas and so have a bulk density which is less than the specific gravity of the solids contained in the agglomerates.

Delivery of particulate material below ground

A wellbore fluid comprises an aqueous carrier liquid, hydrophobic particulate material suspended therein and a gas to wet the surface of the particles and bind them together as agglomerates. The hydrophobic particulate material has a specified maximum volume median particle size dof not more than 200 micron, and/or a minimum surface area of at least 30 mper liter. Agglomerates of the particles contain gas and so have a bulk density lower than the density of the particles. This reduces the rate of settling. The fluid is particularly envisaged as a slickwater fracturing fluid in which the suspended particles are proppant. The small particle size and/or substantial surface area increases the amount of gas which can be retained within agglomerates and so enhances the buoyancy of the agglomerates. The end result is that a greater proportion of a hydraulic fracture is propped open.

Gravel packing a region of a wellbore is carried out using one or more hydrophobically-surfaced particulate materials as the gravel. Placing the gravel pack is carried out using an aqueous carrier liquid, with hydrophobic particulate material suspended in the liquid and a gas to wet the surface of the particles and bind them together as agglomerates. The presence of gas lowers the density of the agglomerates relative to the particulate material in them, so that transport of the particulates is improved. The invention enables the placing of longer, uniformly packed, gravel packs, especially in horizontal and near horizontal wellbores.

Method of gravel packing

A wellbore fluid is an aqueous carrier liquid with first and second hydrophobic particulate materials suspended therein. The first hydrophobic particles have a higher specific gravity than the second hydrophobic particles and the fluid also comprises a gas to wet the surface of the particles and bind them together as agglomerates. The fluid may be a fracturing fluid or gravel packing fluid and the first particulate material may be proppant or gravel. The lighter second particulate material and the gas both reduce the density of the agglomerates which form so that they settle more slowly from the fluid, or are buoyant and do not settle. This facilitates transport and placement in a hydraulic fracture or gravel pack. One application of this is when fracturing a gas-shale with slickwater. The benefit of reduced settling is better placement of proppant so that a greater amount of the fracture is propped open.
