According to the embodiments provided herein, a photovoltaic device can include a buffer layer adjacent to an absorber layer doped p-type with a group V dopant. The buffer layer can have a plurality of layers compatible with group V dopants.

An electrochemical cell includes a bifunctional air cathode, an anode, and a ceramic electrolyte separator disposed substantially between the bifunctional air cathode and the anode. The anode includes a solid metal and an electrolyte configured to transition to a liquid phase in an operating temperature range. The electrolyte includes at least one of an alkali oxide, boron oxide, a carbonate, a phosphate, and a group III-X transition metal oxide.

An electrochemical cell includes a bifunctional air cathode, an anode, and a ceramic electrolyte separator disposed substantially between the bifunctional air cathode and the anode. The anode includes a solid metal and a liquid electrolyte phase. The liquid electrolyte phase includes at least one of an alkali oxide, boron oxide, a group V transition metal oxide, and a group VI transition metal oxide.

A carbon dioxide absorbent composition is described, including (i) a liquid, nonaqueous silicon-based material, functionalized with one or more groups that either reversibly react with COor have a high-affinity for CO, and (ii) a hydroxy-containing solvent that is capable of dissolving both the silicon-based material and a reaction product of the silicon-based material and CO. The absorbent may be utilized in methods to reduce carbon dioxide in an exhaust gas, and finds particular utility in power plants.

An aqueous electrolyte composition is described, including a zinc salt based on zinc acetate or zinc glocolate. The saturation concentration of zinc in the electrolyte composition is in the range of about 2.5M to about 3.5M. The composition also contains at least one salt of a monovalent cation. The molar ratio of zinc to the monovalent cation is about 1:2. An aqueous zinc electroplating bath, containing the aqueous electrolyte composition, is also disclosed, along with a method for the electrochemical deposition of zinc onto a substrate surface, using the electroplating bath. Related flow batteries are also described, including a catholyte, as well as an anolyte based on the aqueous electrolyte composition, with a membrane between the catholyte and the anolyte.

The methods includes charging a feed having an intimate mixture of aluminum chloride, sodium chloride, and aluminum metal, to a reactor at an initial temperature less than about 80&#xb0; C., carrying out a solid state reaction to form a solid NaAlClat an intermediate temperature less than about 145&#xb0; C., melting the formed solid NaAlClat an elevated temperature greater than about 150&#xb0; C. to produce molten phase NaAlCl, holding the reactor at a raised temperature greater than about 165&#xb0; C. to substantially complete formation of colorless NaAlCland filtering the reactor contents at a final temperature greater than about 165&#xb0; C.

A method of making a composite magnet wire includes mixing alumina nano particles with a polyimide polymer to form a polyimide mixture, the alumina nano particles having a surface treatment applied to outer surfaces of the alumina nano particles, the surface treatment including a phenyl-silane; coating a wire with the polyimide mixture by passing the wire through a coating die; heating the coated wire; cooling the coated wire; passing the coated wire through an annealing oven at a temperature of about 425&#xb0; C. to about 475&#xb0; C. at a speed of about 15 to about 30 feet per minute to anneal the coated wire; cooling the annealed coating wire; spooling the coated wire onto a metal spool; heating the spooled wire at about 300&#xb0; C. to about 400&#xb0; C. for about 20 to about 40 minutes; and cooling the heated spooled wire.

High temperature high frequency magnet wire and method of making

A composite magnet wire includes, in an exemplary embodiment, a metal wire and a coating applied to an outer surface of the wire. The coating includes a polyimide polymer and a plurality of alumina nano particles dispersed in the polyimide polymer. The alumina nano particles have a surface treatment applied to outer surfaces of the alumina nano particles, where the surface treatment includes a phenyl-silane. The composite magnet wire has a thermal degradation temperature index of at least 300&#xb0; C. as calculated in accordance with ASTM E1641 or D2307.

In one embodiment, a cathode composition comprises a transition metal and/or a transition metal salt, wherein the transition metal is selected from the group consisting of nickel, iron, cobalt, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, zinc, and antimony, and a combination comprising at least one of the foregoing; an alkali metal halide; an electrolyte salt comprising an alkali metal halide and a metal halide; and a sulfide compound selected from the group consisting of gallium sulfide, antimony sulfide, and a combination comprising at least one of the foregoing. In addition, the present invention provides methods of preparing the amino-siloxane compositions are provided. Also provided are methods for reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in a process stream employing the amino-siloxane compositions of the invention as species which react with carbon dioxide to form an adduct with carbon dioxide. The reaction of the amino-siloxane compositions provided by the present invention with carbon dioxide is reversible and thus, the method provides for multicycle use of said compositions.
