Disclosed is a one step fiber optic connector polishing method. The method is a sequence of processes that may include severing a fiber () length projecting out of the end face () of a ferrule () having a pre-shaped surface, such that the residual fiber length does not exceed 80 microns. Cleaning ferrule () end face () such that no residual debris are left on it. Polishing fiber end-face () only, on a finishing polishing film () until fiber end-face () and ferrule end-face () are in a relation that ensures the desired fiber undercut or protrusion.

One step fiber end-face polishing process

Apparatus, including a printing system, press, press components, and printing members for lithographic printing and other similar processes, is disclosed. The printing system for imaging printing members includes a plurality of infra red laser diodes coupled to a respective optical fiber for providing an output light beam, and a stationary telecentric lens assembly, that operates to image a printing member by exposure from ablative infra-red radiation. The printing members include a first substrate layer, with a second radiation absorbing layer over this first layer, for supporting an image ablated onto the printing member. A third surface coating layer is over the second layer. The third layer is substantially abdhesive to ink while the second layer has an affinity for ink opposite that of the third layer. Methods for imaging with the apparatus and for imaging the printing members are also disclosed.

Imaging apparatus for exposing a printing member and printing members therefor

A public presentation system is presented comprising a display system that can be remotely changed, so that multiple different images are successively displayed with minimal interruption. The system utilizes ionography techniques for non-contact printing and imaging for display. Thus by exploiting electrostatic imaging techniques, an advertisement can be displayed promptly by transferring a toner image onto an imaging belt.

Method and system for displaying an image on a screen

Internal drum recording apparatus provided with a rotating deflecting element, comprising two (or more) beams of different wavelengths, which are simultaneously operatable, and optical elements for bringing the two or more beams to a common optical path before they reach the rotating deflecting element. The deflecting element may have dispersing properties such that beams of different wavelengths will leave it at slightly different angles. The beams of different wavelengths may be generated by laser diodes or tunable laser diodes. The apparatus may further comprise a beam combiner to combine the beams generated by the light sources.

Multibeam multi-wavelength internal drum recording apparatus

A method of measuring dispersion in an optical fiber from one end is disclosed. An optical measurement signal comprising timed pulses is input into one end of the fiber, and a small loop is formed at the point to which total dispersion is to be measured. In one embodiment the loop is formed so as to increase the amount of detectable light that escapes the fiber at the loop, and the escaping light pulses are monitored by a free space detector. The wavelength of the optical measurement signal is varied, and the change in propagation delay of the detected optical pulses is measured, thus indicating the dispersion. In a second embodiment the loop is formed so as to increase the amount of loss in the optical measurement signal, and an OTDR is utilized.

A method for applying a gravure printing plate to a gravure printing drum including applying a release liner on the gravure printing drum, wherein a release layer of the release liner faces away from the drum, applying a double-sided adhesive foil to the gravure printing drum, wherein the two edges of the adhesive foil overlap, cutting through the overlapping edges of the adhesive foil and through the release liner, removing the release liner and attaching the two cut edges of the adhesive foil to the drum, applying a release liner on the gravure printing drum, wherein a release layer of the release liner faces towards the adhesive foil, applying the gravure printing plate onto the double-sided adhesive foil, wherein the two edges of the plate overlap in the area of the release liner, cutting through the overlapping edges of the gravure printing plate and through the release liner; and removing the release liner and attaching the two cut edges of the gravure printing plate to the adhesive foil.

A system and a method for illuminating a spatial light modulator, where all the pixels of the SLM are illuminated symmetrically with respect to the optical axis, thus reducing the crosstalk problem. The system includes a linear array of light sources for generating a plurality of light beams, a linear array of microlenses, each of the microlenses receiving light from a corresponding light source of the array of light sources, an optical element for receiving light from the array of microlenses and for redirecting it and a spatial light modulator including an array of pixels for modulating the light. The distance between the array of microlenses and the optical element is such that all the pixels of the SLM are illuminated symmetrically with respect to the optical axis of the optical element.

Method and system for illumination using laser diode bar and microlenses array of same pitch

A confocal optical system is disclosed that utilizes fiber optic components in its construction. The system includes a light source, two detection units, an aperture and an optical element all optically coupled to a fiber optic coupler via optical fibers. In addition, a novel automatic focusing device is disclosed which utilizes chromatic aberration to maintain a target object in optimal focus. The device includes two light sources having different wavelengths of light, an optical element, an aperture, two detection units and a beam splitter. One light source is used to achieve initial focus and to illuminate the target object. The second light source is used to maintain the target object in optical focus. Light reflected off the target object is measured by one of the detection units. The magnitude of the light of the second wavelength measured by the detection unit is utilized to maintain focus. A second detection units is utilized to measure the intensities of the two light sources to yield normalized results. Further, a method of diagnosing an optical system is also disclosed. The method includes comparing a current set of readings of light against a set of reference readings taken at an earlier point in time. If the difference exceeds a predetermined threshold, a problem is indicated.

Printing and printed circuit board members and a method for producing printing member from a member is provided. The printing member includes a topmost protective layer, an IR ablatable layer, a substrate and a wash-off layer. The wash-off layer is washed with a solvent after imagewise ablation of the topmost protective layer so as to expose the substrate, so that the printing member is produced. An imaging system for imaging a plurality of macropixels onto a media and a method for generating a linear array of macropixels to be imaged onto a media utilizing a two dimensional spatial light modulator having a plurality of micropixels grouped together to form a plurality of linear arrays of macropixels is provided. The imaging system includes a light source for generating a beam of light; a projection lens assembly for focusing the beam of light; a deflector illuminated by the light beam output from the projection lens assembly, the deflector able to deflect the light beam in the vertical (Y-axis) direction; an anamorphic lens assembly illuminated with the light beam output from the deflector; a two dimensional spatial light modular (SLM) including a plurality of micropixels, the plurality of micropixels grouped together to form a plurality of linear arrays of the micropixels, and an imaging lens assembly coupled to the output of the spatial light modulator. The spatial light modulator controls the passage of light through each of the macropixels, the linear arrays being illuminated one at a time in sequential order. The imaging lens assembly images onto the media, a line spot on the deflector in the vertical (Y-axis) direction and the output of the spatial light modulator in the horizontal (X-axis) direction.

Apparatus and method for recording an image

A compact optical system for imaging an array of light emitters, particularly an individually addressable laser diodes array, onto a recording surface, whereby the image of each emitting region is spread in the cross direction to a width approximately equal to its length dimension. The system consists of a main non-anamorphic imaging lens assembly and a single cylindrical lens disposed between the array and the imaging lens assembly, with its focal line parallel to the array's centerline. There will occur a spread of the short dimension of the imaged emitting regions due to defocusing at the recording surface. Also, the numerical aperture of the emitted beams in the transverse axis is reduced prior to entry into the imaging lens assembly.

A novel optical system operative to transfer, with high efficiency, optical power from a line source, such as a LDB, built from a plurality of individual light sources with different angular distribution in two orthogonal axis into a rectangular area with a particular aspect ratio and two different numerical apertures. The near field pattern of a LDB is imaged onto the plane of an SLM. The system utilizes light generated from an LDB having a plurality of individual light sources to illuminate a microlens array. The microlens array, consisting of a plurality of microlenses, functions to collimate the light from the LDB in the slow axis. An optical element adjacent the microlens array refracts the light in the fast axis. In the slow axis, the light from the microlens array is incident upon an optical element which focuses the light onto the SLM plane such that the light from each point light source illuminates the entire active pixel area of the SLM. An additional optical element focuses the light in the fast axis to generate the required spot image. The optical system of the present invention utilizes natural aberrations and/or artificial aberrations to decrease the sensitivity of the optical system to the smile phenomena exhibited by most laser diode bars.
