A pivot bearing (), includes a metallic first bearing element () made of steel, which is at least partially coated by means of a coating (), a metallic second bearing element () made of steel, which is coated with a PTFE-containing sliding lining (), wherein the coating () and the sliding lining () are in sliding contact, and wherein the coating () comprises at least one first layer () deposited on the first bearing element () by means of a PVD, CVD, or PECVD method, wherein the coating () also comprises at least one further layer which is arranged on the at least one first layer () and faces away from the first bearing element ().

Pivot bearing

A method for producing a reduced friction sliding surface on a machine element includes applying a coating comprising amorphous carbon to a surface of the machine element and locally heating the coating with a laser. The coating is heated to a temperature below an evaporation temperature of the coating to achieve a local volumetric increase in the coating and a local increase in a layer thickness of the coating. A surface structure of the coating includes a multiplicity of elevations resulting from a local phase transformation of the coating from amorphous carbon into graphite due to the locally heating.

Method for producing a sliding surface

A coated article of steel having at least one layer having a high hardness and a high resistance to wear applied by a deposition (e.g., PVD, a CVD, or PECVD) process, at least one surface region of said article and at least one ALD layer comprising at least one layer of a material deposited by an ALD (atomic layer deposition) process on said at least one layer, wherein the steel of which the article is made is a martensitic grade of steel, wherein the at least one layer, is a DLC layer, a metal-DLC layer, or a CrAlN layer and has a thickness in the range from 0.5 microns to 4 microns and a hardness in the range from 20 GPa to 100 GPa, and wherein the ALD layer has a thickness in the range from 1 nm to 100 nm.

Coated article of martensitic steel and a method of forming a coated article of steel

Disclosed is a bearing component having at least one layer having a high hardness and a high current insulation property, the layer comprising a nonconductive oxide layer selected from the group comprising an AlOlayer, a TaO layer, an SiOlayer, a mixed layer comprising two or more of the foregoing oxides, a multilayer structure comprising alternating layers of two or more of the foregoing oxides and a DLC layer such as a ta-C layer, there being at least one ALD layer comprising at least one layer of a material deposited by an ALD (atomic layer deposition) process on the at least one layer having a high hardness and a high current insulation property, the ALD layer itself having a high current insulation property and comprising a material or layer structure selected from the said group of materials.
