A method for registration-less paging includes establishing a mobile device identity for a mobile device in a wireless network, determining a time instance for the identified mobile device to listen to pages, and sending a page from the wireless network to the identified mobile device during the determined time instance. In one example, the method is for a network-initiated attach procedure and includes receiving a request to attach a mobile device in a wireless network, generating a paging message based on the request to attach the mobile device, sending a paging indicator to a mobile device based on the paging message during a time instance based on an agreed rule, and accepting an attach procedure from the mobile device based on the paging indicator.

Apparatus and method for network-initiated attachment and registration-less paging

System(s) and method(s) are provided for transmitting data code symbols and control code symbols spanning disparate transmission time intervals in the uplink. Data and control symbols that overlap in time-domain within a transmission time interval are multiplexed and transmitted employing resources scheduled for data transmission, whereas data and control code symbols that are not multiplexed are transmitted in respective allocated resources. Multiplexing in conjunction with localized and distributed resource scheduling preserves the single-carrier characteristics of a single-carrier frequency division multiple access system.

Method and apparatus for data and control multiplexing

In one disclosed embodiment, data information is stored in a buffer in a transmitter. The data information is transmitted on a shared channel and control information for recovering the associated data information is transmitted on a dedicated channel. The shared and dedicated channels can be, for example, different portions of the frequency band. The control information can include a spreading factor used to spread the data at the transmitter. For example, the spreading factor can be the length of the Walsh function orthogonal coding used to spread the data. The control information is received over the dedicated channel before the associated data information is received over the shared channel. The control information is then used to recover the associated data information. For example, knowing the spreading factor from the control information, the correct Walsh function can be selected to de-spread, i.e. to Walsh de-cover, the data information.

Method and system for data and voice transmission over shared and dedicated channels

Techniques for sending control information on a variable control channel are described. Different structures for mapping control information to control channel resources may be used depending on various factors such as operating configuration, the available resources for the control channel, the type(s) of control information being sent, the amount of control information being sent for each type, whether or not data is being sent, etc. In one design, at least one type of control information being sent may be determined and may comprise channel quality indicator (CQI) information, acknowledgement (ACK) information, and/or other types of control information. A structure of the control channel may be determined based on operating configuration (e.g., system configuration such as asymmetry of downlink and uplink allocations) and/or other factors. The at least one type of control information may be mapped to the resources for the control channel based on the structure.

Communications in an asynchronous cellular wireless network

Techniques for efficient allocation of channelization codes are disclosed. In one aspect, a dedicated data channel is partitioned into a primary channel and a secondary channel. The rate of the primary channel is a relatively low fixed rate. The rate of the secondary channel varies over time in accordance with the rate of the dedicated channel data. In another aspect, a channelization code indicator is transmitted in the primary channel to identify the secondary channel. In yet another aspect, more than one secondary channel may be deployed. Various other aspects are also presented. These aspects have the benefit of efficient code resource allocation, resulting in increased support for users/and or channels, as well as increased system capacity.

Dynamic channelization code allocation

A remote station, for a wireless communication system, includes a receiver configured to receive on a first downlink a synchronization control channel on a first carrier frequency and on a second downlink a shared physical channel on a second carrier frequency different than the first carrier frequency. The shared physical channel includes a first physical shared channel having a unicast signal and a second physical shared channel having a multicast or broadcast signal, the unicast signal being multiplexed in time with the multicast or broadcast signal. The remote station includes a control processor configured to generate an acknowledgement signal on an uplink based on the unicast signal.

Time multiplexing of unicast and multicast signals on a downlink carrier frequency in a wireless communication system

Embodiments disclosed herein address the need in the art for reduced overhead control with the ability to adjust transmission rates as necessary. In one aspect, a first signal indicates an acknowledgement of a decoded subpacket and whether or not a rate control command is generated, and a second signal conditionally indicates the rate control command when one is generated. In another aspect, a grant may be generated concurrently with the acknowledgement. In yet another aspect, a mobile station monitors the first signal, conditionally monitors the second signal as indicated by the first signal, and may monitor a third signal comprising a grant. In yet another aspect, one or more base stations transmit one or more of the various signals. Various other aspects are also presented. These aspects have the benefit of providing the flexibility of grant-based control while utilizing lower overhead when rate control commands are used, thus increasing system utilization, increasing capacity and throughput.

Combining grant, acknowledgement, and rate control commands

Schemes to time-align transmissions from multiple base stations to a terminal. To achieve time-alignment, differences between the arrival times of transmissions from the base stations, as observed at the terminal, are determined and provided to the system and used to adjust the timing at the base stations such that terminal-specific radio frames arrive at the terminal within a particular time window. In one scheme, a time difference between two base stations is partitioned into a frame-level time difference and a chip-level time difference. Whenever requested to perform and report time difference measurements, the terminal measures the chip-level timing for each candidate base station relative to a reference base station. Additionally, the terminal also measures the frame-level timing and includes this information in the time difference measurement only if required. Otherwise, the terminal sets the frame-level part to a predetermined value (e.g., zero).

Method and apparatus for time-aligning transmissions from multiple base stations in a CDMA communication system

Method and apparatus for a channel sensitive scheduler for scheduling transmissions in a communication system. The scheduler is defined by a priority function of the channel condition as determined by amount of transmission power needed by a mobile station. In one embodiment the channel condition is determined based on the transmission pilot power of each mobile station and is used to calculate a priority value for each mobile station. The mobile stations are then scheduled to transmit based on the priority value.

Method and apparatus for channel sensitive scheduling in a communication system

Systems and methods for selecting data rates at which to transmit data over a primary uplink in the presence of one or more secondary uplink channels. One embodiment comprises a method including determining probabilities associated with numbers of attempted transmissions of data, determining the number of times pending data transmissions have been attempted, determining probabilities associated with the data transmissions, and allocating power for transmission of the data in a succeeding frame based upon the associated probabilities. In one embodiment, a highest supportable data rate for a primary uplink is initially selected. Then, power is allocated for a minimum set of channels on the primary uplink. Then, power is allocated for pending data transmissions on the secondary uplink. A maximum power level for the transceiver is then adjusted to account for the allocated power, and the highest supportable data rate for the primary uplink is recomputed.

Method and apparatus for uplink rate selection in the presence of multiple transport channels in a wireless communication system

Techniques to implement MBMS services in a wireless communication system. In one aspect, a method is provided for processing data for transmission to a plurality of terminals. Frames of information bits (which may have variable rates) are provided to a buffer implementing a matrix. The matrix is padded with padding bits based on a particular padding scheme to support variable frame rates. The frames are then coded based on a particular block code to provide parity bits. The frame of information bits and the parity bits are then transmitted to the terminals. In another aspect, a method is provided for controlling the transmit power of a data transmission to a plurality of terminals. In accordance with the method, TPC streams are received from the terminals and processed to obtain a stream of joint power control commands used to adjust the transmit power of the data transmission.
