A method of determining a posterior error probability distribution for a parameter measured by a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver. The method comprises receiving a value for each of one or more GNSS measurement quality indicators associated with the GNSS measurement of the parameter. The or each received measurement quality indicator value is provided as an input into a multivariate probability distribution model to determine the posterior error probability distribution for the GNSS measurement, wherein the variates of the multivariate probability distribution model comprise error for said parameter, and the or each measurement quality indicator.

The invention relates to an apparatus supporting an acquisition of a received code modulated signal by determining the correlation between the received code modulated signal and an available replica code sequence at different code phases. It is proposed that the apparatus comprises a first acquisition engine for selecting code phases which are good candidates for being the code phase at which a received code modulated signal and an available replica code sequence have the highest correlation. The apparatus further comprises a second acquisition engine for performing a refined comparison between a received code modulated signal and an available replica code sequence for each code phase selected by the first acquisition engine. Multiple access using different codes lengths for global navigation satellite systems

The invention relates to a method for acquiring a receiver () into a code modulated spread spectrum signal received by the receiver (). In the method at least one replica code (r) is used which corresponds to a code used with the modulation having a pre-determined number of chips, and an examination phase is performed, in which a frequency shift of the signal within a selected frequency area is examined, and a code phase of the code used with the modulation is examined. In the method the frequency shift examination is divided into a first estimation phase and a second estimation phase, wherein in the first estimation phase the selected frequency area is divided into a first set of frequencies, and in the second estimation phase a second set of frequencies is examined nearby each frequency of the first set of frequencies. Further, a comparison for frequencies of the second set of frequencies is performed using the received signal and the replica code (r), and the results of the comparison are used to estimate the correct frequency shift.

System for method for fine acquisition of a spread spectrum signal

The invention relates to a method for positioning a receiver based on code modulated signals transmitted by a plurality of transmitting units, which code modulated signals are formed by an individual code for each transmitting unit. In order to enable an improved positioning it is proposed that the method comprises in a first step receiving signals at said receiver. In a second step a correlation of the received signals is performed with predetermined replica codes corresponding to the individual codes employed by the transmitting units for determining potentially used channels based on resulting correlation peaks. A third step consists in determining a value indicative of the signal level of each channel for which a maximum correlation peak is obtained in a correlation with one of said predetermined codes. In a fourth step a position of said receiver is determined based on signals of channels resulting in the correlations in a maximum correlation peak, of which channels the value indicative of the signal level exceeds a threshold value.
