Wireless communication arrangement

An RF front end arrangement comprises first filtering, second filtering, third filtering, fourth filtering and a switching arrangement. The switching arrangement is configured to selectively connect the filtering to plural antennas such that at a particular time the first and third filtering is connected to a first antenna and the second and fourth filtering is connected to a second antenna. This allows filtering with different frequency response characteristics to be in use simultaneously for the same frequency band. This can reduce the insertion loss associated with a signal path.

RF front end arrangement and method for sharing first and second antennas by different frequency bands

Apparatus, methods, computer software and computer program products are provided for tuning a user equipment antenna to simultaneously operate at more than one resonant frequency by combining a first electrical load and a first frequency selective component to tune the antenna to a first resonant frequency with respect to signals in a first frequency range, and combining a second electrical load and a second frequency selective component to tune the antenna to a second resonant frequency with respect to signals in a second frequency range. The first electrical load, the second electrical load, the first frequency selective component and the second frequency selective component act to tune the antenna to operate simultaneously at the first resonant frequency and the second resonant frequency.

Antenna arrangement

Embodiments provide a method and apparatus for performing time division duplex communication, such as may be performed over a wireless communications network. In the embodiments a first circuit pathway is used to transmit a first radio frequency signal in a transmission mode and a second circuit pathway is used to receive a second radio frequency signal in a reception mode. In the reception mode, the first radio frequency signal is switched to an alternate circuit pathway. This may be performed by a radio frequency integrated circuit or by other control circuitry. Switching to an alternate circuit pathway reduces leakage of the first radio frequency signal into the second radio frequency signal.

Method and apparatus for time division duplex communication

A switch arrangement is described which enable the design of a flexible front end allowing many individual and combinations of frequency band allocations to share a single antenna simultaneously. An apparatus using the switch arrangement is also described. The switch arrangement provides a single pole switch for each set of band specific filtering. The band specific filtering is connected to the pole of a respective single pole switch. The single pole switch has contact points enabling connection to of the filtering to an antenna switch both with and without a frequency selective component in the signal path. The frequency selective component allows sharing of the antenna by two or more frequency band allocations to enable simultaneous use of different radio access technologies, MIMO or Carrier Aggregation through a single antenna. When not required the frequency selective component can be switched out of the signal path to reduce insertion loss.

An apparatus for use in a mobile device includes a switch unit configured to switch a common connection of a transmitter and a first receiver from a first antenna to a second antenna and a connection of a respective second receiver from the second antenna to the first antenna; and a processing system configured to detect a switch condition that the transmitter needs to transmit via the second antenna, obtain power-related reception parameters of said first and said second receivers, cause the switch unit to switch the common connection of the transmitter and the first receiver so that the transmitter transmits via the second antenna, and adjust the power of the transmitter in dependence on the power-related reception parameters.

A switch arrangement comprises a first and second single pole switch. The pole of the first switch can selectively connect to a first and second path. The pole of the second switch can selectively connect to the first and second path. The first switch is configurable for a first mode of operation to connect a RF signal received at the pole to the first path to form a RF transmitter chain. The second switch is configurable for the first mode to connect the pole to the first path to form a RF receiver chain for receiving a RF signal. The first switch is configurable for a second mode to connect a RF signal received at the pole to the second path to form a second RF transmitter chain.

Switch arrangement

A reconfigurable radio frequency circuit is arranged for receiving at least one carrier in a wireless communications terminal arranged to receive at least two carriers, each of the two carriers being transmitted in a different one of a plurality of operating frequency bands, and each of the plurality of operating frequency bands occupying a part of a first or a second frequency range. The circuit includes a combiner for connecting the output of a first receiver filter at a first operating frequency band within the first frequency range to the input of an amplifier and for connecting the output of a second receiver filter at a second operating frequency band within the second frequency range to the input of the amplifier. The amplifier has a selectable operating frequency range, the operating frequency range being selectable at least between the first frequency range and the second frequency range.
