Disclosed is a method comprising receiving, from a power supply unit of a base station, measurement information for one or more parameters related to an efficiency of a rectifier of the power supply unit; receiving cell load measurements indicative of a cell load of the base station; determining, based on the measurement information and the cell load measurements, a mapping between the cell load and the efficiency of the rectifier; and adjusting, based on the mapping, at least one of: the cell load of the base station, or one or more configuration parameters of the power supply unit.

Mapping between cell load and rectifier efficiency

Disclosed is a method comprising transmitting one or more requests for charging or discharging batteries of a plurality of base stations, wherein the plurality of base stations comprise at least a first group of base stations associated with a first communications service provider, and a second group of base stations associated with a second communications service provider different to the first communications service provider.

Access technology priority lists and related access list identifiers are maintained in a radio access system such that at least one access list identifier is associated with a plurality of access technology priority lists. Behavior of at least one communication device in the radio access system is controlled by selecting one of the access technology selection priority lists based on information (such as load conditions or quality of service class) regarding an access list identifier and the radio access system.

Controlling communication devices in a communication system

According to the proposed method, the frequency of power control commands transmitted on a power control channel is changed according to the traffic. When the traffic becomes slower in at least one direction due to a DTX state, a slower transfer rate, asymmetric data transfer or for any other reason, the frequency of power control commands is lowered. Both the base station and the personal station may lower the frequency of the commands which they send. An alternative to changing the frequency of power control commands is to change the energy of power control bits. The duration of power control bits must hereby be extended, if a standard bit error ration is desired. If the system is frequency-divided and/or time-divided and uses frequency control command of several bits, the length of the command word may be shortened in addition to or as an alternative to the change in frequency. The power control algorithm may be changed several times during a traffic connection.

Power control method of discontinuous transmission

This invention relates to a method and arrangement for controlling transmission power in a mobile communications system, and to a network element. In the method according to the invention a certain target level is defined for a value representing the quality of a signal, which target level should be reached by the received signal. According to the invention this target level is advantageously limited so as to be smaller than or equal to a first predetermined limit value and/or greater than or equal to a second predetermined limit value. In accordance with the invention the quality of the signal may be measured e.g. by means of an SIR value. In the method according to the invention the quality of the received signal is checked and, based on the check, a first SIR target level is given to a comparing element (). By means of the comparing element () it is ensured that the said first SIR target level falls within predetermined limits. Based on the comparison, a final SIR target level is given to a power control element () which produces a power control signal in order to adjust the transmission power.

Method and arrangement for controlling transmission power and a network element

An apparatus and corresponding method for deciding whether to perform link adaptation for communication transmitted from a first communication device to a second communication device, where the second communication device examines a signal received from the first communication device and provides a first indication of the quality of the signal. The method includes the steps of: recording at least one first indication of the quality of the signal as received by the second communication device; providing a second indication of the quality of the signal based on the at least one first indication of the quality of the signal; and deciding to perform link adaptation based on the second indication of the quality of the signal. The first indication of the quality of the signal is for example a signal to interference ratio (SIR) estimate. Often, the second indication of the quality of the signal is a changed SIR target value.

A two-dimensional optimization between adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) and multi-code transmission targets the best bit rate at which a highest useable modulation and coding scheme (MCS) achieves a maximum allowed number of channelization codes or less. The optimized MCS and number of channelization codes at a best bit rate is communicated from a transmitter to a receiver, possibly also with power information for instance using a transport format combination indicator (TFCI). A user equipment may play the role of carrying out the optimization and signaling the result to the Node B or may instead receive the result as carried out by the Node B or RNC in response to a radio link quality measurement sent from the UE to the Node B.

Optimization of MCS and multi-code with TFCI signaling

A diversity receiver in a radio apparatus has at least two reception branches and a RAKE receiver to combine signal received by the different reception branches as well as a measuring receiver to make frequency specific measurements. The radio apparatus includes a switch connected with at least one reception branch and has at least two states in the first of which the switch is arranged to direct a signal received by a reception branch to the RAKE receiver and in the second of which the switch is arranged to direct a signal received by a reception branch to the measuring receiver. The radio apparatus makes measurements at other than the operating frequency without the reception at the operating frequency being interrupted. In a communications system the measurements may be associated with a handover.
