A battery pack includes a battery, a battery management system (BMS), a charge switch, a discharge switch, and a tilt sensor. The BMS monitors voltage and current states of the battery and control charge and discharge operations of the battery. The charge and discharge switches operate based on control signals from the BMS. The BMS measures a variation in tilt angle of the battery pack or a load based on tilt information sensed by the tilt sensor, and turns off the discharge switch when the tilt angle variation is equal to or less than a first critical value for a preset time period. The load may be an electric vehicle or another type of load.

A battery pack includes a battery, a battery management system (BMS), and an inertia sensor. The battery includes at least one battery cell to supply electricity to a load. The BMS monitors voltage and current states of the battery and to control charge and discharge operations of the battery. The BMS determines a moving state of the load based on inertia information from the inertia sensor and outputs a control signal to interrupt flow of a discharge current of the battery when the discharge current is equal to or greater than a first critical current value for a preset time period and the load is determined to be stationary.

A battery pack and a method for controlling the same are disclosed. In one aspect, the battery pack includes a master battery management system (BMS) and a plurality of battery modules each including a slave BMS connected to the master BMS. In another aspect, the method includes first determining the number of slave BMS' electrically connected to the master BMS, receiving a plurality of voltage values of the battery modules from the slave BMS&#x2032; and first calculating an average value of the voltage values. The method also includes second determining a terminal voltage of the battery pack, comparing the average voltage value with the terminal voltage of the battery pack to calculate the number of the battery modules connected in series, and third determining a first series connection relationship of the battery modules, in one of a plurality of serial unit sets, based on the comparison.
