A laundry treating apparatus may comprise a cabinet that defines an exterior design; a drum rotatably mounted in the cabinet and configured to accommodate laundry; a drive unit or motor configured to rotate the drum; a hot air supply unit or hot air blower configured to supply high-temperature air to the drum and in communication with the drum; a collection portion or liquid chamber provided to collect water condensed from the drum and in communication with the hot air supply unit; and a drainage pump configured to discharge the water collected in the collection portion outside the cabinet such that the laundry treating apparatus may sense whether the condensate collected in the collection portion is frozen and thaw the frozen condensate. A control method of the laundry treating apparatus may be provided to thaw and operate the laundry treating apparatus.

A control method of a laundry treatment apparatus is disclosed which includes a course setting procedure receiving a control command including RPM control data of an impeller, RPM control data of a compressor or opening degree control data of an expansion valve, a hot air supply procedure for supplying heated air to a drum through control of the impeller, compressor and expansion valve, a temperature measurement procedure measuring temperature of air introduced into the drum during execution of the hot air supply procedure, a first control procedure for controlling the impeller, compressor and expansion valve based on the control command when the measured temperature is equal to or higher than a reference temperature, and a second control procedure controlling the impeller, compressor and expansion valve based on a control command different from the control command set in the course setting procedure when the measured temperature is lower than the reference temperature.

A clothes treating apparatus includes a cabinet and a drum rotatably installed within the cabinet. The clothes treating apparatus also includes a circulation flow path in which exhaust air discharged from the drum is re-supplied to the drum and a condenser configured to allow the exhaust air and cooling air introduced from an outside of the cabinet to be heat-exchanged. The clothes treating apparatus further includes a cooling flow path configured to guide the cooling air toward the condenser and a blowing fan configured to introduce air from outside of the cabinet to an interior of the cooling flow path. A control method for a drying machine according to one exemplary embodiment is applied to a drying machine which selects at least one of a heat pump system and a heater to use as a heat source for heating air to be supplied into the drum. The control method includes activating the heat pump system when both of the heat pump system and the heater are selected as the heat source, and determining whether or not a compressor included in the heat pump system normally operates. Whether or not to use the heater as the heat source is decided according to whether or not the compressor normally operates.

The clothes dryer may include a main body having a drum rotatably installed therein, a circulation channel formed in the main body, the circulation channel defining a path of air that flows through the drum to dry an object to be dried, and a heat pump system having an evaporator, a compressor, an expansion apparatus, and a condenser, the heat pump system cooling and heating air that flows through the circulation channel. The evaporator may be mounted in the circulation channel, and a 'U' trap may be positioned below the evaporator in the circulation channel.

A laundry machine having a heat exchanger cleaning device may include a cabinet, a drum provided in the cabinet, a heat exchanger for heating air to dry laundry in the drum, air conduits to circulate the air between the heat exchanger and the drum, and a control valve that controls a flow of water to the heat exchanger to clean lint deposits on the heat exchanger. An area of the heat exchanger may be divided into a plurality of regions, such that a first nozzle is coupled to the first outlet port and provided above a first region of the plurality of regions and a second nozzle is coupled to the second outlet port and provided above a second region of the plurality of regions. The control valve may selectively direct the flow of water toward the first nozzle or the second nozzle to clean a desired region.
