An optical film includes a first pattern layer including a base part and a plurality of protruding parts disposed on the base part, and having a first refractive index, and a second pattern layer disposed on the first pattern layer and having a second refractive index greater than the first refractive index. Each of the protruding parts includes a bottom surface adjacent to the base part, an upper surface opposite to the bottom surface and parallel to the bottom surface, and a side surface disposed between the bottom surface and the upper surface. The side surface includes three or more sub-inclined surfaces, inclination angles of which are different from each other, or includes a curved surface which is convex in a direction of the second pattern layer.

Optical film and display device including the same

An optical film includes a first pattern layer including a base part and protrusion part groups on the base part and having a first refractive index, and a second pattern layer on the first pattern layer and having a second refractive index greater than the first refractive index. Each of the protrusion part groups includes first and second protrusion parts adjacent to each other. Each of the first and second protrusion parts includes a bottom surface, an upper surface, a first side surface and a second side surface. The first and second protrusion parts are symmetrical with respect to a reference line passing through a center of each of the protrusion part groups and perpendicular to the base part. A manufacturing method of a display apparatus includes providing a backlight unit under a display panel to provide a light to the display panel. The providing of the backlight unit includes disposing a light source on a substrate to emit the light, disposing a mask above the light source, which includes a first opening and a second opening greater than the first opening disposed under the first opening, and providing a transparent resin including a wavelength converting material on the light source through the first and second openings to form a wavelength converting member. A width in a cross section of the wavelength converting member along a direction substantially vertical to the substrate becomes smaller as a distance from the substrate becomes greater.

Display apparatus and method of manufacturing the same

A display apparatus includes plural light source units each including a light emitting device and a lens portion; a reflection sheet defining plural holes thereof and into which the light source units are respectively disposed; and a display panel on the reflection sheet. The lens portion defines: a body portion; and plural side protruding portions and respectively at opposing sides of the body portion in a first direction in a top plan view. The hole of the reflection sheet is defined by: an edge of a first hole; an edge of a second hole facing the first hole in a second direction crossing the first direction, the second hole larger than the first hole; and slanted edges connecting the first hole to the second hole. In a fixed state of the reflection sheet, a predetermined area of the reflection sheet adjacent to the slanted edges overlaps the side protruding portions.

A display device includes an optical member, a display panel disposed on the optical member, and a plurality of light emitting units disposed under the optical member, the optical member comprising, a diffusion layer, and a reflectivity control layer which is disposed under the diffusion layer and reflects a light provided from the light emitting units, including a first base material, reflective materials dispersed in the first base material, a plurality of first portions corresponding to the plurality of light emitting units, and a second portion disposed adjacent to the first portions, where each of the plurality of first portions comprises a greater amount of the reflective materials than the second portion, when a first portion and a second portion represent a unit area having a predetermined size.

A display device includes a display panel which displays an image, a backlight unit which generates light and emits the light toward the display panel, a supporting member which supports edge parts of the display panel, and an accommodation member defining an accommodation space in which the backlight unit and the supporting member are disposed. In the accommodation space, the backlight unit includes a light source which generates the light, and a side-emitting lens which covers the light source and through which the light generated by the light source is emitted. In the accommodation space, the supporting member defines a plurality of stepped parts, where the plurality of stepped parts extended toward the light source has a light reflecting characteristic.

Light guide plate for backlight and manufacturing method therefor

Provided is a backlight unit including a printed circuit board, a light-emitting diode package, a diffusion plate, and a reflection sheet. The light-emitting diode package including a light-emitting part configured to generate a first light. The diffusion plate includes a first diffusion pattern provided on a first region corresponding to the light-emitting diode package and a second diffusion pattern provided on a second region to have a transmittance higher than that of the first diffusion pattern. The reflection sheet includes an absorption pigment configured to absorb a fraction of the first light with a specific wavelength and converting the first light to a second light, and the reflection sheet is configured to reflect the second light toward the first diffusion pattern. The backlight unit can have improved color coordinate uniformity.

Backlight unit

A backlight assembly includes a light guide member extending in a direction and having a light incident surface and a light exiting surface. A light source faces the light guide member and supplies light to the light guide member through the light incident surface. A reflecting member reflects light exiting from the light exiting surface of the light guide member. The reflecting member includes a groove receiving the light guide member. A first reflecting portion is disposed under the light guide member and reflects light refracted by the light guide member in an upward direction. A second reflecting portion is disposed on the light guide member and reflects light refracted by the light guide member in a downward direction.

Backlight assembly and a display device using the same

A backlight unit includes a light source which generates light, a light guide plate which guides the light substantially in an upward direction, a first frame member which holds the light source and diffuses the light traveling substantially in the upward direction between the light source and the light guide plate, a second frame member which holds the light guide plate, a third frame member which holds the light guide plate, a reflective plate disposed under the light guide plate and which reflect the light leaked downwardly from the light guide plate substantially to the upward direction, and an optical sheet disposed on the light guide plate and the first to third frame members and which diffuses the light provided from the first frame member and the light guide plate and condenses the light substantially in the upward direction.

Backlight unit and display device having the same

A light guide plate includes a light incident surface, a light emitting surface and a light guide surface. The light incident surface receives light from an external light source. The light emitting surface emits outward the light received through the light incident surface. The light guide surface faces the light emitting surface and includes a diffusion pattern formed thereon. The diffusion pattern includes a plurality of porous particles and a plurality of spheroidal particles, and the porous particles have pores formed therein and on surfaces thereof.
