A process is described for the synthesis of metal oxides in a nanometric particle form that cannot be easily obtained by conventional bulk synthesis techniques. The method makes use of Colloid Occluded Carbons (COC) and Colloid Imprinted Carbons (CIC) as reagents and as templating agents for the preparation of metal oxides in nanometric particle form. The nanometric particles are suitable useful in the field of chemical catalysis, particularly for petroleum refining when in porous form, and as sensors, optical wave guides, and coatings.

Method for the preparation of metal oxides in nanometric particle form

A process for the preparation of mesostructured organofunctional silica and silica-alumina compositions using a hydrolyzable organosilane compound is described. The process uses a water soluble silicate to form the compositions, which have hexagonal, wormhole or foam mesostructures. The compositions are useful for catalytic and sorption applications.

Process for the assembly of ultrastable mesostructured organofunctional silica compositions

Novel lamellar mesoporous silica compositions which can contain functional inorganic elements and organic functional groups as part of the lamellar silica framework structure are described. The compositions are prepared using gemini amine surfactants as templates or structure directing agents. The compositions have novel high temperature and hydrothermal stability and unique fundamental particle structures.

Ultra-stable lamellar mesoporous silica compositions and process for the preparation thereof

Hybrid mesoporous molecular sieve silica compositions which have intergrown wormhole domains and lamellar or hexagonal domains and prepared from mixtures of water soluble silicate precursors and amine surfactant templates through a neutralization reaction are described. The silica compositions are stable above 600&deg; C.

Process for the preparation of hybrid mesoporous molecular sieve silicas from amine surfactants

Porous inorganic silica foam compositions are derived from water soluble silicate precursors and swollen non-ionic polymer templates are described. The compositions are useful as catalyst supports and as catalysts in hydrocarbon cracking and organic reactions, among other applications.

Silica foam compositions

A process for the preparation of mesostructured molecular sieve silicas from inorganic silicon precursors and polyoxyethylene oxide based polymers is described. The silicas are stable upon calcination to 600&deg; to 800&deg; C. The silicas are useful in refining processes.
