Systems and methods are provided for analyzing a biomechanical property of a medium using stimulated Brillouin scattering microscopy. The method can include a first step of applying a probe beam and pulsed pump beam to a target section of the medium, wherein the pump beam interacts with the probe beam to generate at least one acoustic wave in the medium and at least one Brillouin signal is produced as a result of the generated acoustic wave. The method can also include a second step of receiving the produced Brillouin signal and a third step of determining, using a processor and the Brillouin signal, information associated with at least one biomechanical property of the target section.

Systems and methods for stimulated Brillouin microscopy

Systems and methods are provided for measuring the mechanical properties of ocular tissue, such as the lens or corneal tissue, for diagnosis as well as treatment monitoring purposes. A laser locking feedback system is provided to achieve frequency accuracy and sensitivity that facilitates operations and diagnosis with great sensitivity and accuracy. Differential comparisons between eye tissue regions of a patient, either on the same eye or a fellow eye, can further facilitate early diagnosis and monitoring.

Systems and methods for Brillouin spectroscopy and imaging of tissues

A system for performing spectroscopy on a target is provided. In some aspects, the system includes an optical assembly that includes an optical source configured to generate light at one or more frequencies to be directed to a target. The optical assembly also includes at least one optical filter configured to select desired light signals coming from the target, wherein the at least one optical filter comprises an etalon and at least one reflecting surface external to the etalon, the at least one reflecting surface being configured to redirect to the etalon, at least once, an incident beam reflected from the etalon.

System for performing spectroscopy

Arrangements and methods are provided for obtaining information associated with an anatomical sample. For example, at least one first electro-magnetic radiation can be provided to the anatomical sample so as to generate at least one acoustic wave in the anatomical sample. At least one second electro-magnetic radiation can be produced based on the acoustic wave. At least one portion of at least one second electro-magnetic radiation can be provided so as to determine information associated with at least one portion of the anatomical sample. In addition, the information based on data associated with the second electro-magnetic radiation can be analyzed. The first electro-magnetic radiation may include at least one first magnitude and at least one first frequency. The second electro-magnetic radiation can include at least one second magnitude and at least one second frequency. The data may relate to a first difference between the first and second magnitudes and/or a second difference between the first and second frequencies. The second difference may be approximately between &#x2212;100 GHz and 100 GHz, excluding zero.

Methods, arrangements and systems for obtaining information associated with an anatomical sample using optical microscopy

A procedure is performed on at least one section of an ocular component. At least one first electro-magnetic radiation is provided to the section so as to interact with at least one acoustic wave in the ocular component. At least one second electro-magnetic radiation is produced based on the interaction. Multiple portions of the second electromagnetic radiation are received. Each portion was emitted from a different corresponding segment of the section. A visco-elastic modulus of the section is monitored based on the multiple portions during the procedure. Feedback is applied to the procedure based at least in part on the monitored visco-elastic modulus, including at least one of: (1) guiding a trajectory of an incision based on different respective monitored values of visco-elastic modulus for the segments, or (2) determining a number of incisions to be made based on different respective monitored values of visco-elastic modulus for the segments.

Performing a procedure based on monitored properties of biological tissues

This disclosure provides systems and methods for mapping and/or measuring a mechanical property of a medium. The mechanical property can be measured by Brillouin spectroscopy. The systems and methods can include a three-dimensional imaging modality that is co-registered with a Brillouin probe beam of a Brillouin spectrometer. The three-dimensional imaging modality can be optical coherence tomography or Scheimpflug camera imaging.

Systems and methods for obtaining information associated with an anatomical sample using optical microscopy

One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a remotely controllable lens device. The lens device can include a lens material and a circuit physically coupled to the lens material. The circuit can be configured to be powered based on an energy signal from a power source to perform a function (e.g., release of drug, generation of electromagnetic radiation, detection of electromagnetic radiation, and/or control of an optical refractive property). For example, the power source can be an external power source and/or an auto-powered source. The external power source can be, for example, a power source that utilizes synchronized magnetic flux phase coupling (e.g., WiTricity). The auto-powered source can be provided on-site (e.g., on-chip) using a harvesting system (e.g., solar-cell, photo-cell, piezoelectric, etc.)

Remotely controllable lens device

An apparatus and source arrangement for filtering an electromagnetic radiation can be provided which may include at least one spectral separating arrangement configured to physically separate one or more components of the electromagnetic radiation based on a frequency of the electromagnetic radiation. The apparatus and source arrangement may also have at least one continuously rotating optical arrangement which is configured to receive at least one signal that is associated with the one or more components. Further, the apparatus and source arrangement can include at least one beam selecting arrangement configured to receive the signal.

Process and apparatus for a wavelength tuning source

Exemplary apparatus, arrangement and method can be provided for obtaining information associated with an anatomical structure or a sample using optical microscopy. For example, a light radiation can be separated into first light radiation(s) directed to an anatomical sample and second light radiation directed to a reference. A wavelength of the radiation can vary over time, and the wavelength can be shorter than approximately 1150 nm. An interference can be detected between third and fourth radiations associated with the first and second radiations and fourth radiation, respectively. At least one image corresponding to portion(s) of the sample can be generated using data associated with the interference. In addition, source(s) can be provided which can be configured to provide an electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength that varies over time. A period of a variation of the wavelength of the first electromagnetic radiation(s) can be shorter than 1 millisecond, and the wavelength can be shorter than approximately 1150 nm.

Process, arrangements and systems for providing frequency domain imaging of a sample

In one exemplary embodiment, an apparatus can be provided which includes at least one biological medium that causes gain. According to another exemplary embodiment, an arrangement can be provided which is configured to be provided in an anatomical structure. This exemplary arrangement can include at least one emitter having a cross-sectional area of at most 10 microns within the anatomical structure, and which is configured to generate at least one laser radiation. In a further exemplary embodiment, an apparatus can be provided which can include at least one medium which is configured to cause gain; and at least one optical biological resonator which is configured to provide an optical feedback to the medium. In still another exemplary embodiment, a process can be whereas, a solution of an optical medium can be applied to a substrate. Further, it is possible to generate a wave guide having a shape that is defined by (i) at least one property of the solution of the optical medium, or (ii) drying properties thereof.

Apparatus, method and system for generating optical radiation from biological gain media

Exemplary apparatus and method are provided. In particular, an electromagnetic radiation can be emitted with, e.g. a light source arrangement. For example, the light source arrangement can include a cavity and a filter, and a spectrum of the electromagnetic radiation can be controlled, e.g., with such cavity and filter, to have a mean frequency that changes (i) at an absolute rate that is greater than about 100 terahertz per millisecond, and (ii) over a range that is greater than about 10 terahertz. Additionally or alternatively, the light source arrangement can include a frequency shifting device which can shift the mean frequency of the electromagnetic radiation.

Method and apparatus for performing optical imaging using frequency-domain interferometry

A hydrogel-lightguide based sensory system susceptible to a stimulus signal produced by ambient and stimulating sensory cells embedded in a hydrogel body of the system. Sensory cells generate an optical signal (in response to a user-defined triggering with excitation light or, alternatively, due to bioluminescence) the properties of which, determined based on detection of such signal with an optical detector device, provide characterization of the stimulus and information required for user-defined activation of emitter cells encapsulated in the hydrogel. When activated, emitter cells generate matter and/or light directed to interact with the ambient.

Light-guiding hydrogel devices for cell-based sensing and therapy

Apparatus, method and storage medium which can provide at least one first electro-magnetic radiation to a sample and at least one second electromagnetic radiation to a reference, such that the first and/or second electromagnetic radiations have a spectrum which changes over time. In addition, a first polarization component of at least one third radiation associated with the first radiation can be combined with a second polarization component of at least one fourth radiation associated with the second radiation with one another. The first and second polarizations may be specifically controlled to be at least approximately orthogonal to one another.
