A disc jacket, especially for a photo-magnetic disk which records, reproduces and erases information, has a single opening configured to receive both a recording head and a central spindle. The opening extends along the whole radius of the disk to enable effective use of a larger area of the disc. The opening is opened and closed by a pair of shutter blades which automatically open when the disk jacket is inserted in an information recording and reproducing apparatus.

A method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium of thin metallic film type comprises, a first step of forming a thin magnetic metallic film layer on a base film which heat-contracts both in a first direction and in a second direction perpendicular to first direction, and a second step of heating the base film, while preventing the base film from heat-contracting in the first direction and thus heat-contracting the base film in the second direction, thereby making cracks in the thin magnetic metallic film layer which extend substantially parallel to the first direction of the base film.

First and second contact members insulated from and bonded to the respective upper and lower surfaces of a magnetic head which is mounted on an operating member driven from a pulse motor are adapted to get out of the edge of a magnetic tape when the magnetic head is brought to positions corresponding to the uppermost and lowermost tracks respectively. When these contact members get out of the edge of the magnetic tape, they come to contact with a stationary contact member which is provided on the side of the magnetic tape opposite the contact members.

This invention is for a tape cassette having window for insertion of a magnetic head and a pinch roller formed extending from a peripheral wall of the housing of the tape cassette to one of the holding plates which holds a pair of reel hubs in place. The device according to this invention has a shutter member, and a resilient metal wire housed in the housing. The shutter member has projections which are to be engaged with an engaging member provided on a tape cassette holder member of the magnetic tape transport apparatus. The metal wire urges the shutter member to close a portion of the window formed in the holding plate. When the cassette is loaded into the loading member, the projections engage with the engaging member and the shutter member releases the closing state of the holding plate forming portion of the window against an urging force of the wire. When the cassette is removed from the loading member, the shutter member closes the holding plate forming portion to prevent the tape from being damaged by an external force.

Magnetic record tape protective device for a tape cassette

In a magnetic tape-automatic tracking method, at least one of the positions of the upper and lower edges of a magnetic tape is detected by an assembly of a tape edge position sensor and light-emitting diode. Any displacement of the running magnetic tape from its standard vertical position is determined from detected data. A generally vertical tape edge position-compensating post which applies a tensile force to the magnetic tape in contact therewith is rotated in a vertical plane by a reversible motor in accordance with the detected extent of the displacement of the running magnetic tape from its standard vertical position. The magnitude of a tensile force applied by the tape edge position-compensating post to the magnetic tape is varied, by the extent of the rotation of the reversible motor. As a result, the magnetic tape is vertically moved in the desired direction to regain its standard vertical position.

Method and apparatus for automatically tracking a magnetic tape

First and second capstans are rotated at respective speeds by first and second motors. The speeds of revolution of the first and second motors are detected as detection signals, and the revolution speed of at least one of the first and second motors is controlled in accordance with a difference between the detection signals. An offset voltage is added to one of the detection signals corresponding to the revolution speeds of the first and second motors for the control of tape tension.

A magnetic head comprises a core holder for holding a magnetic head element and including a first conductive region which is adapted to bear against the magnetic head element, and a shielding case which defines a second conductive region adapted to bear against the first conductive region and covering both the magnetic head element and the core holder to provide a magnetic shielding. In this manner, any static electricity developed on a magnetic tape is conducted to the ground potential of an instrument in which the magnetic head is mounted through the first and the second conductive region.

A tape cassette according to this invention comprises at least three guide rollers disposed inside the housing of the tape cassette. The at least three guide rollers define a position of the magnetic recording tape of the tape cassette relative to the housing across the thickness thereof while the tape is travelling from one of two reel hubs held by the housing along a path extending adjacent a front wall of the housing, the front wall having openings for the insertion of a magnetic head and a pinch roller.

A magnetic cassette tape record and play apparatus wherein the magnetic head thereof is fixed, comprises a push member cooperating with an operation button and which is so disposed as to abut against a pad spring received in a tape cassette. When the tape cassette is loaded or ejected in the stop mode, the push member is pressed against the pad spring to deform it against its urging force, thereby locking the cassette tape in a position untouched by the magnetic head. When the operation button is depressed for the recording or reproduction mode, then the push member is removed from the pad spring, thereby causing the pressure pad to be pressed against the magnetic head with the cassette tape disposed between the pressure pad and the magnetic head.

Magnetic cassette tape record and play apparatus

A device for stably running a magnetic recording tape of a tape cassette comprises a reel shaft and a motor connected to the reel shaft. The reel shaft and the motor make a running of the magnetic recording tape providing back tension exerted on the magnetic recording tape. Within the housing of the tape cassette, a first lever having one end rotatably fixed to the housing is mounted. A guide roller for guiding the running direction of the tape is rotatably fixed to another end of the first lever. Therefore, the first lever may swing in response to a back tension exerted on the tape. An amount of the swing of the first lever is detected by a second lever which is rotably located out of the housing and selectably engaged with the first lever. The second lever is connected to the detection means which generates an electric signal in accordance with the amount of rotation of the second lever. The electric signal is sent to the electric controlling circuit means electrically connected to the motor. The electric controlling circuit means controls a value of the voltage supplied to the motor in accordance with the electric signal, and stabilize the value of the back tension exerted to the tape via the motor and the reel shaft.

Tape cassette drive assembly

A tape cassette comprises an impedance roller which is set on the opposite side of a magnetic tape to a magnetic head closely upstream thereof as viewed from the direction in which the magnetic tape runs. The impedance roller presses the magnetic tape toward the magnetic head, thereby preventing the magnetic tape from being shaken.

Within a housing of a tape cassette is mounted a reel hub serving to wind a magnetic recording tape. The reel hub is moved between a first position where one side edge of the tape wound around the reel hub is spaced from a wall of the housing and a second position where the one side edge of the tape abuts against the wall, reel hub being rotated at the first position by a reel shaft of a magnetic recordig tape running apparatus inserted through an opening of the wall of the tape cassette for engagement with the reel hub. Within the housing is also mounted a abutment member. The abutment member is movable between a third position where the abutment member is spaced from the other side edge of the tape wound around the reel hub located in the first position and a fourth position where the abutment member abuts against the other side edge of the tape wound around the reel hub located in the second position by the reel shaft inserted through the opening of the tape cassette housing for engagement with the reel hub. The abutment member is usually urged to the fourth position by a compression coil spring housed in the tape cassette housing.

Mechanism for preventing loosening of magnetic recording tape of tape

A flat miniature dynamoelectric machine comprises a flat rotor with an assembled coreless coil, a commutator having an exposed portion for sliding contact with brushes and integrally carrying the rotor, a shaft on which the commutator is mounted together with the rotor, a housing including bearing means for rotatably supporting and housing the shaft together with the rotor and the commutator mounted thereon, one end of the shaft projecting externally of the housing, a magnet disposed within the housing in opposing relationship with the peripheral surface or end face of the rotor, electrically conductive brushes located within the housing for sliding contact with the exposed portion of the commutator, and a thrust bearing plate mounted on the housing in bearing engagement with the opposite end of the shaft. The thrust bearing plate facilitates close control over the mounting position of the shaft, thereby stabilizing the positional relationship between the various parts.
