An evaporation apparatus comprises an elongated crucible having an upper opening and storing an evaporation material, an electric heater which covers the upper opening of the elongated crucible, generates heat by causing electric current to flow therein for heating the evaporation material stored in the crucible, and has an opening through which the evaporation material which is vaporized by heating can pass through, and a fixing member for pressing and fixing the electric heater onto the elongated crucible. Further, between the fixing member and the electric heater, an angle member having surface portions respectively fitting onto an edge portion of the upper surface and an upper portion of the side surface of the elongated crucible is provided along the longitudinal direction of the elongated crucible. A pressing force from the fixing member is made to exert onto the electric heater via the angle member to bring the electric heater into close contact with the elongated crucible.

Evaporation apparatus

An electric heater is placed so as to cover an upper opening of a crucible. Then, a plurality of angle members are disposed along the side portions of the electric heater and are pressed and fixed by clamps. The clamp includes, at its bottom, a curved portion formed by bending a plate-like spring member into a convex shape, and generates pressing force between the curved portion and corresponding claw portions at the upper edge, thereby clamping the crucible.

Fixing member for evaporation apparatus

When electric current is caused to flow in an electric heater which is disposed on an elongated crucible, an evaporation material stored within the crucible and located under the electric heater is heated and the evaporation material is vaporized and discharged through an opening of the electric heater. Because a metal coating is applied to the outer surface of the elongated crucible, external radiation of heat from the crucible is reduced, and the heat generated by the electric heater is more efficiently used to increase the temperature of the evaporation material. In this manner, efficient heating for the interior of the elongated crucible and uniform temperature within the crucible can be achieved.

An optical disc player for reproducing an optical disc having a pit width of 0.2-0.35 .mu.m, a pit depth of 100-120 nm, and a track pitch of 0.7-0.85 .mu.m. The optical disc player includes a semiconductor laser having a wavelength of 590-670 .mu.m and a laser beam projector which projects the laser beam from the laser onto the optical disc with a spot of a predetermined diameter.

The present invention is provided with a cartridge holder for installation of a cartridge which houses an optical disk, and a tray which is located below said cartridge holder and in which an unhoused optical disk is placed, and which can move to-and-fro between a position in which information are recorded and/or played back and a position in which the optical disk is exchanged, a center shaft which rotates by means of a rotating drive means, and a holding mechanism including a turntable which is secured to the shaft and is provided with a magnetic body, an optical disk centering means and a support surface which supports the optical disk; and a clamper which can be brought into contact with and separated from the support surface of said turntable and which maintains in contact with the support surface of the turntable optical disks which do not have hubs. The optical information recording/playback device allows installation of a variety of optical information recording media such as optical disk with or without hubs and optical disks which are housed in a cartridge or unhoused.

A high density optical disc having a track pitch of 0.85 .mu.m, a shortest pit length of 0.49 .mu.m, a pit depth of 100 nm, and a pit width of 0.35 .mu.m is rotated at a linear velocity of 2.4-2.8 m/s such that the same is optically reproduced by a laser beam having a wavelength of 635 nm which is converged to a spot size of 0.9 .mu.m by an objective lens having a numerical aperture of 0.6. Accordingly, data is read from the optical disc at a transfer rate of 5.6 Mbps.
