An object of the present invention is to provide an adhesive composition for a high-power optical fiber having a low pull-in amount. The adhesive composition for a high-power optical fiber of the present invention contains: a compound (A) having an aromatic ring and a reactive silicon-containing group; a glycidyl compound (B); and a compound (C) having a silsesquioxane cage structure.

An object of the present invention is to provide an adhesive composition for a polarization-maintaining optical fiber exhibiting a high extinction ratio. The adhesive composition for a polarization-maintaining optical fiber of the present invention contains: a compound (A) having an aromatic ring and a reactive silicon-containing group; a glycidyl compound (B); and a compound (C) having a silsesquioxane ladder structure.

A body motion sensor, such as an SAS diagnostic device, with which a subject can be examined in a state close to that in an ordinary living environment and it is possible to clearly discriminate between an apnea state and a hypopnea state by means of a relatively simple analytical method; and an optical fiber sheet suitable for use in the sensor. Optical fiber sheet and body motion sensor

An optical fiber sheetincludes an optical fiberand a wirethat are arranged between a first sheet and a second sheet. The optical fiberis a multi-mode optical fiber having a core of silica glass to which a refractive index adjuster is added, has a numerical aperture equal to or less than 0.30 and a flexural rigidity equal to or less than 0.50 N&#xb7;mm, and is bent to be arranged between the first sheet and the second sheet. In order to provide a ferrule for an optical-fiber connector used for good organization of an optical communication network, the ferrule for an optical-fiber connector is made of a crystallized glass having a composition which consists essentially of, by weight percent, 60-70% of SiO,, 16-25% of Al,O,, 1.5-3% of Li,O, 0.5-2.5% of MgO, 1.3-4.5% of TiO,, 0.5-3% of ZrO,, 2-6.5% of TiO,&plus;ZrO,, 1-5.5% of K,O, 0-7% of ZnO, and 0-3% of BaO. The crystallized glass includes 30-70 volume % precipitation of &bgr;-spodumene solid solution or &bgr;-quartz solid solution having an average grain size not greater than 2 &mgr;m. In addition, the crystallized glass has a bend strength of 200 MPa or more and a thermal expansion coefficient of &minus;10&tilde;50&times;10,/&deg; C. at a temperature between &minus;50 and 150&deg; C.

The guided-wave circuit also includes both a phase adjusting plate and an amplitude adjusting plate to achieve further improvement in the optical characteristics. An apparatus for producing these optical characteristics adjusting plates is also included.

Disclosed are optical fibers for optical attenuation comprising a core and a cladding, wherein the cladding comprises two or more parts different from each other in their refractive indices and/or the attenuating dopant existence. By using the optical fibers for optical attenuation of the present invention, an optical attenuator which can effectively reduce the effect of cladding mode upon coupling of optical fibers and is excellent in characteristic stability can be manufactured at a low cost.

Glass material for infrared ray-transmitting optical fibers comprises a three-component material made of a 28 mol % to 38 mol % BaF.sub.2 -2 mol % to 7 mol % GdF.sub.3 -58 mol % to 69 mol % ZrF.sub.4 -based composition. The glass material is cast in a metal mold with a hollow section which is preheated to a temperature of at least 100.degree. C. but below the glass deformation temperature and annealing the melt in the metal mold to form a glass rod. The glass rod forming step includes heating the melt in the temperature range of between about 200.degree. C. and less than the glass deformation temperature and cooling the melt. The glass rod is removed from the metal mold and optically polished at the ends and sides and is then drawn into a fiber while applying tension to the tip of the glass rod while the glass rod is being heated. The glass rod is drawn into a glass fiber while maintaining the temperature at the end portion of the glass rod constant.

Glass for optical fibers is made of material of a binary system containing a fluoride selected from BaF.sub.2, SrF.sub.2 CaF.sub.2 and PbF.sub.2 and another fluoride selected from AlF.sub.3 and ZrF.sub.4.
