A head slider is composed of a substrate having a transducer on its outflow end, a rail plane formed on a surface near both sides of the substrate facing a magnetic disk. The head slider further includes a plurality of projection elements formed on the rail plane. When the slider is floating over the magnetic disk, the distance between the projection elements and the magnetic disk is greater than the distance between the outflow end of the slider and the magnetic disk.

A magnetic head slider includes a pair of rails formed on a disk opposing surface opposed to a magnetic disk, each of the rails having a flat air bearing surface for generating a flying force during rotation of the disk, a slit formed between the pair of rails at their air inlet end portions, and a groove defined between the pair of rails which is continuous to the slit and wider than the slit, for expanding the air once compressed to generate a negative pressure. The magnetic head slider further includes an electromagnetic transducer formed on an air outlet end at a position where one of the rails is located. The slider has a trapezoidal shape such that its air inlet end is narrower than its air outlet end.

A head slider is composed of a substrate having a transducer on its outflow end, a rail plane formed on a surface near both sides of the substrate facing a magnetic disk, and the first projection arranged on the rail planes near an inflow end of the substrate, and the second and third projections formed on the rail plane near an outflow end of the substrate.

A slider body of a magnetic head slider has a leading end located upstream of an air flow generated between the slider body and a magnetic recording medium, a trailing end located downstream of the air flow, and a floating surface opposed to the magnetic recording medium. At least two rails for generating a floating force are provided on the floating surface of the slider body. A magnetic head for reading/writing data is provided at the trailing end of the slider body. A groove formed between the rails is changed in width from the leading end toward the trailing end, thereby generating an attractive force between the floating surface and the magnetic recording medium. Each of the rails has a tapering portion increased in thickness from the leading end toward the trailing end. The tapering portion terminates at a position where each rail is decreased in width from the leading end toward the trailing end. This magnetic head slider is improved in that its floating characteristics are less influenced by working variations of the tapering portion.

The head slider has a substrate with a transducer on an outflow end of the substrate and rail planes, facing a disk, formed along sides and a front of the substrate. In addition, projections extend from the rail planes toward the disk. Two projections are near the outflow end of the substrate while one projection is near the inflow end of the substrate.

An air-bearing head slider supports an electromagnetic transducer opposed to a rotating recording medium or magnetic disk. The slider includes a slider body having a bottom surface opposed to the rotating magnetic disk, the bottom surface having an air-entry end and an air-delivery end with respect to an air flow generated between the slider body and the rotating recording medium. A central rail is provided on the surface of the slider body at the air-entry end. The central rail extends from the air-entry end and terminates on its way to the air-delivery end. Two side rails are provided on the surface of the slider body at the air-delivery side and extend from the air-delivery end and terminate on their way to the air-entry end. An air flow passage, extending from the air-entry end to the air-delivery end, includes air gaps defined between the central rail and the two side rails and an area on the bottom surface located downstream of the gaps, so that a negative pressure is generated in the downstream area due to the air flow passing through the gaps.

A suspension mechanism of a recording disk apparatus has a head slider mounted on a portion of a load beam in the vicinity of the free end of the load beam through a gimbal spring. The gimbal spring has a central leg portion and two side leg portions, all of which are formed in parallel. The head slider is adhered to the top surface of the central leg portion which is lifted from the side leg portions. A protrusion formed on the load beam or on the central leg portion serves to transfer loading force generated by the load beam to the head slider by a universal joint connection. The gimbal spring is mounted on the load beam such that the longitudinal direction of the central leg portion is normal to the seek direction of the head slider.
