A controller apparatus for an electric vehicle includes a power supply, a power converting section for converting power supplied from the power supply, a motor which receives an output from the power converting section to drive the electric vehicle; an accelerator opening detector for detecting an accelerator opening; a controller section for controlling said power converting section in response to a detected output from said accelerator opening detector; a current detector for detecting the current supplied to the motor from the power supply; and failure decider for deciding that the controller suffers a failure when the output from the current detector is not smaller than the reference value previously determined in accordance with the accelerator opening, thereby stopping the drive of the motor. In such a structure, the torque not smaller than that required by a driver is produced so that it is possible to prevent the electric vehicle from running away.

In a fuel injection system for an engine, the degree of opening of a throttle valve provided in the suction pipe is detected with a throttle valve sensor. When the load of the engine is smaller than a predetermined value, a control unit operates to close an electromagnetic valve provided in a bypass passageway of the suction pipe, thereby setting the flow rate of air in the bypass passageway to zero or an extremely small value, whereby, when the load of the engine is higher than the predetermined value, the quantities of exhaust gases of hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide are reduced, and when the engine is under a light load, the fuel consumption is reduced.

Opening of a throttle valve is electrically controlled in response to an accelerator pedal depression signal generated by an accelerator pedal position sensor and indicating depression depth of an accelerator pedal. A backup operation control of the engine is performed by controlling an auxiliary air flow which bypasses the throttle valve in dependence on the accelerator pedal depression signal upon occurrence of abnormality in a throttle valve control system. During the backup operation, a speed range shift pattern of an automatic transmission is changed over to a backup operation oriented pattern from a normal operation oriented pattern. The power train control system allows the motor vehicle to run even when a failure occurs in the throttle valve or a throttle control system in the fully closed state of the throttle valve.

A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine has cylinders each of which is provided with an exclusive fuel injection valve individually driven their openings. Each cylinder has a misfiring detecting means for detecting misfiring of that cylinder. The control apparatus includes a drive stopping means for stopping the driving of the fuel injection valve corresponding to a misfired cylinder so as to stop fuel supply to that misfired cylinder. The apparatus is further provided an air-to-fuel ratio sensor in the exhaust path of the engine so that when misfiring of the cylinder is detected, the fuel injection valves remain controlled through a feedback control where the openings of the normally fired cylinders are controlled in accordance with the air-to-fuel ratio signal outputted from the air-to-fuel ratio sensor in such a way that the apparent air-to-fuel ratio of the cylinders is given by an equation L=nLo/(n-p) where L is the apparent value of the air-to-fuel ratio of the cylinders when p cylinders are misfired, n is the number of cylinders, Lo is the air-to-fuel ratio of the cylinders when all of the cylinders are normally operating, and p is the number of misfired cylinders.

A fuel controller for an internal combustion engine has an air temperature sensor in an air intake pipe and a cylinder pressure sensor which measures the pressure within a cylinder of the engine during a compression stroke. A control unit calculates the air quantity in each cylinder based on the measured intake air pressure and cylinder pressure and controls the fuel injectors of the engine so as to obtain a desired air-fuel ratio.
