A backing plate for sputtering is constituted by a base portion comprising a plate member made of aluminum or its alloy, a surface of which is attached with a target T of an ITO sintered body or the like and a cooling portion in a flat plate shape having a cooling medium flow path at an inner portion thereof. Further, the cooling portion is integrally attached to a rear face of the base by friction agitation bonding. The cooling portion comprises a roll bond panel made of aluminum or its alloy and inner hollow portions of bulged pipe portions constitute the cooling medium flow path . Thereby, a backing plate which is light-weighted and has high cooling efficiency can be provided.

A connected structure includes a supporting member and a bushing mounting member connected thereto. The supporting member is made of a pipe having a round cross-sectional shape. The bushing mounting member includes a bushing mounting portion for mounting a bushing having a rubber elastic member and a connecting portion protruded from the bushing mounting portion. The connecting portion is press-fitted into an opening at one end of the supporting member, and the connecting portion and the supporting member are joined together along a circumference of the supporting member by a friction agitation joining method. Accordingly, the connecting member which is light in weight and high in strength with an improved efficiency for utilizing the surrounding space and a predetermined characteristics of a bushing can be obtained.

In a friction agitation joining method for joining metallic joining members, a joining device having a column-shaped rotor of a larger diameter and a pin-shaped probe of a smaller diameter integrally formed on an end of the rotor and protruded along an axis of the rotor is used for joining the metallic joining members. The probe is rotated and inserted into or around a butted portion of the joining members to soften a contact portion contacted by the probe by friction heat and to agitate the contact portion so that the joining members are butt joined. Each joining member has a thick portion at a butting side thereof The rotating rotor is contacted to the thick portions under pressure to soften the thick portions by friction heat so that a gap formed at the butted portion is filled with the materials of the softened thick portions.

Friction agitation joining method for joining metallic joining members

A novel flux is provided for use in the low-temperature brazing aluminum materials of varied compositions, the flux being composed of a KCl--NaCl--BaCl.sub.2 base and 0.5-5.0 wt. % of LiF and/or 1.0-10.0 wt. % of ZnCl.sub.2 added to the base. A method of flux brazing a low-melting aluminum material is also provided, and the method is carried out by applying such a novel flux as well as a low-melting brazing agent to the aluminum material portions to be adjoined. The brazing agent is composed of an Al--Si--Zn alloy which contains 3-12% by weight of Si and 15-70% by weight of Zn.
